Submitted By: Richard Wilkinson jrrrr@zianet.com ************************************************************ Seven Rivers Area, EDDY COUNTY, NEW MEXICO McDONALD CEMETERY Records extracted by Richard Wilkinson Typing by Richard Wilkinson Dec 1999 Submittal by Richard Wilkinson Dec 1999 Updated February 19, 2005 This information comes from the stones of the McDonald Cemetery. This Cemetery is located in the vicinity of Seven Rivers, NM. It is in a very remote desert region of central Eddy County. There is nothing around this cemetery except oil field tanks and wells, and one ranch. It is located on top of a small hill. Seven Rivers use to be known to have two cemetery's. This is one of them and the other has been moved to the City of Artesia, NM as a result of the Brantly Damn Project. To get to this very interesting cemetery from Carlsbad, NM, get on Highway 285 at the North City Limits and go north for 15.3 miles. Turn at about mile marker 54 to the left (west). This will be a paved County Road 23 and is also known as Rock Daisy Road. Go south for 6 miles and turn left on a dirt road. There will be no markers or road signs. It will be just before a ranch house. Proceed 6 tenth of a mile coming to an intersection and continue to the right. Continue for another 6 tenths of a mile and come to another intersection and stay to the right again. Go another 1 tenth of a mile and you will come to another intersection, stay to the right and continue for another 3 tenths of a mile. At this intersection you will be able to see the cemetery to your left up on the small hill. Stay to the left and go for another 1 tenth of a mile and turn left and drive up to the cemetery gate. The GPS coordinates are 32 degrees, 35.316N and 104 degrees, 30.454W. It's most interesting to see families in this cemetery. Many are brothers and sisters that died at the same time or within months of each other. It could have been a natural disaster or illness or some accident. As with many old cemeterys in Eddy Co., there are several unmarked sites. Some have markers that cannot be read and some have only a rock marker. Some have no marker but you can clearly see that there is a burial site. These sites are listed in about the same place as found, as far as who is buried next to each other, most sites are marked, so........
