BAIZA	
funeral services for Reynaldo Ornelas Baiza, 88, will be on
January 14 at Calvary Assembly of God.  Interment will follow at
Carlsbad Cemetery.  Mr. Baiza died January 10 at Lakeview
Christian Home of the Southwest Inc., Northgate Unit.  Denton-
Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  He was born
October 3, 1911, to Pedro S. and Teresa L. Ornelas Baiza in
Candelaria, Texas.  He grew up near Valentine, Texas.  In 1931,
they moved to Carlsbad.  He was a pastor for many years with
several Spanish Assembly of God churches in southeast New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maria Herrera, on
December 29, 1978, and his second wife, Beatrice Gonzales, on
January 21, 1996.  Survivors include sons, Paul Baiza of 
Lubbock, Texas, Ish Baiza of Moab, Utah, Danny Baiza of Roswell, NM,
and Lee Baiza of Globe, Ariz.; daughter, Betty Thompson of 
Carlsbad; sisters, Lupe Baiza and Anita Moreno of Carlsbad;

BEAN was born on July 5, 1912, in Mountainair, NM, to Albert
G. Bailey and Monnie (Cook) Bailey.  She married Robert E. Bean
on January 4, 1930, in Estancia, NM.  He preceded her in death
on September 9, 1979.  Survivors include sons Earl C. Bean of
Houston, TX and Albert F. Bean of Kansas City, MO; sister Ruth
Gooch of Denver City, TX.

Nazarene, for William Leroy Beaver, 58.  Interment will follow at

March 18, 1941, to Lester and Margaret I. Stayrook Beaver in
Fairview, Pa.  He was raised in Longfellow, Pa.  He attended
Lewiston High School and then Chief Logan High School.  He moved
to Carlsbad in 1959.  He married Phyllis N. Burton in 1961.  
Survivors include his wife of Carlsbad; daughters, Priscilla
Rhodes of Carlsbad, and Patrilla Wright of Hobbs, NM; brothers,
Fred Beaver of Wilmington, Del., and Theodore Beaver of Council
Bluffs, Iowa; sisters, Helen Shotzberger and Esther Peck of

Funeral services were this afternoon at First Baptist Church 
in Carlsbad for Ada Alline Bell of Carlsbad.  Burial was to
follow at Carlsbad Cemetery.  Bell, 99, died on August 28 at
Carlsbad Medical Center.  Bell was born on July 4, 1900, in
Paducah, Kentucky, to William Sidney and Betty Elvira Goodwin
French.  Her family moved to Hope when she was 9.  She married
Oliver M. Scoggin in 1917 in El Paso, Texas.

Funeral services for Florence Berg, 86, will be held on 
January 26 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City, Minn.

died January 23 at her home.  She was born August 10, 1913 in
Pepin Township in Minnesota.  She married Lloyd H. Berg on
May 15, 1935.  She was preceded in death by her husband and a
brother.  She is survived by three sons, Harold Berg of Lake City,
Gerald Berg of Carlsbad, and William Berg of Hastings, Minn.;
a daughter, Mary in Lake City; a brother, William Schmidt;
a sister, Mildred Dose; and 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grand-
children, and one great-great-granddaughter.

BETANCOURT
Immediate burial is December 18, at Twin Oaks Memorial Park
for Marjorie B. Betancourt of Carlsbad, NM.  She died on
December 15 in Lubbock, Texas.  She was born on October 9, 1918,
in North Bennington, Vt., to John Louis Hurley and Mary Ellen
(Haynes) Hurley.  She was married to Albert J. Betancourt on
August 5, 1940, in Seekonk, Mass.  He preceded her in death on 
June 10, 1990.  She was a membe of St. Paul's Episcopal Church
in Artesia.  She is survived by a son, Robert Betancourt of 
Carlsbad; brother Franklin Bowdoin of Peoria, Ariz.; two
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

BIEHL
Services were Monday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman,
Texas, for former Artesia resident Ruby May Biehl of Brownwood,
Texas.  Biehl, 86, died on August 21 at Oak Manor in Brownwood.
She was a longtime resident of Burkett, Texas.  Interment was at
Burkett Cemetery.  Biehl was born on May 31, 1913, in Elbert,
Texas, to D.B. Bludworth and Eva Strickland Bludworth. She married
Elmer C. Biehl in Coleman, Texas, on July 5, 1935.  He preceded
her in death in 1972.  They lived in Artesia from 1955 to 1960.

for Barry M. Bishop of 58 Marsha Drive.  Bishop, 66, died on

September 4, at Faxon, Oklahoma.  Bishop was born on April
20, 1933, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Thomas Eli Bishop.  Bishop
served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  Survivors 
include a son, Steve Bishop of Hobbs, NM; daughters, Kathy
Curbo of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Judy Jernigan of 
Shamrock, Texas, and Janice Bishop of Big Spring, Texas.

BLEDSOE
Services are scheduled January 31, at Hagerman United Methodist
Church for former Artesia resident Dreta L. Bledsoe of Roswell, NM.
Bledsoe, 89, died January 27 in Roswell.  She was born 
September 2, 1910, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, the daughter of
Ben Williams and Dovie (Edwards) Williams.  She married T.A. Bledsoe
in Portales, NM on January 2, 1930.  She came to Roswell at the age
of 16; lived in Hagerman for 40 years; in Roswell for 25 years;
and Artesia for two years.  Her husband preceded her in death
December 20, 1973.  She was also preceded in death by daughters
Wanda Lee Bledsoe and Carolyn Sue Bledsoe; and by brothers
Harlon Williams, Tommy Williams and B.F. Williams.  She was a member
of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Roswell; Order of Eastern
Star; and adult Girl Scout volunteer for Troop 13.  Survivors 
include sons Raymond Bledsoe of Dexter, Don Bledsoe, wife Betty,
of Arlington, Texas, Tommy Bledsoe, wife Georgia, of Artesia, and
Ross Bledsoe, wife Val, of Marfa, Texas; daughters Dot Ford of
Truth or Consequences, NM, and Peggy Hefner, husband Bill, of
Artesia; sister Leta Waggoner of Roswell; 16 grandchildren; and

A memorial service for John R. Blunt, 92, will be January 10 at
Sunset Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.  Direct cremation will take place

Interment of cremated remains will be at Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
Blunt died January 8 at Carlsbad Medical Center.  He was bron in
Florence County and moved to Carlsbad in 1945.  He was preceded in
death by a son, Russell Stephen Blunt in 1967 and his wife, Amy
Loretta Blunt in 1982.  His only survivors include a granddaughter,
Sharon Blunt Williams of Springfield, Ill.; a grandson, Charles
S. Blunt of Carlsbad; a niece, Barbara Donaldson of Carlsbad; and
six great-grandchildren.

BRAY
Graveside services are scheduled Thursday, September 30, at Mount
Olive Cemetery in Healdton, OK, for Ernest Bray of Healdton.
Bray, 63, died September 28 in the Healdton Hospital after an 
extended illness.  He was born February 20, 1936, in Healdton to
Freeman and Catherine Reeves Bray.  He moved to California in 1957,
then to Artesia in 1958, where he was a charter member of the
Artesia Moose Lodge.  He moved back to Healdton in 1973, where he
owned and operated his own business.  He married Juanita Corbett in
Healdton on February 14, 1954.  She preceded him in death on
April 15, 1973.  He married Pearlene Volkman Chapman in Amarillo, TX,
on July 17, 1973.  Survivors include his wife, Pearlene, of the
home; sons Bob Chapman of Garland, TX, and Dennis Bray of Wilson, OK;
daughters Robin Ezell of Bridgeport, TX, Judy Ratliff of Wilson,
Tanya Cunningham of Ringling, OK, and Danita Jo Wear of Ruidoso, NM;
father Freeman Bray of Healdton; brothers Richard Bray of Healdton,
Tomie Bray of Healdton, and Jimmy Bray of Carthage, TX; sister
Kay Ford of Tacoma, Wash; and numerous grandchildren.

Funeral services for Bill Bricker, 71, will be January 12 at

Center in Lubbock, Texas.  Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in
charge of the arrangements.  He was born June 14, 1928, to 
William Clyde Bricker in Sonora, Texas, where he was raised.  After
high school, he enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War.  After
the war he came to the Permian Basin area.  He was a Baptist.  He
is survived by his wife, Myrtis Bricker of Carlsbad; two stepsons,
Randy Wilson of Carlsbad and Preston Wilson of Rusk, Texas; a 
stepdaughter, Sherilyn Bricker of Carlsbad; two brothers, Royce
Bricker of Farmington, NM and Jack Bricker of Carlsbad; a sister,
Dorothy Brown of Oklahoma; and five nephews who he raised as
children, Bobby Bricker of Hagerman, NM, Scott and Jody Bricker of
Carlsbad, Tommy Bricker of Denton, Texas, and Jackie Lee Bricker

Methodist Church, for Lila Bridwell, 90, of Carlsbad.  Interment

Medical Center.  Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.  She was born August 2, 1909, to John Sherman and
Margaret Ellen Nichols Patton in Junction, TX, where she grew up.
She married Silas Samuel Bridwell in Winters, TX, on May 1, 1926.
In 1940 they moved to Carlsbad.  She and Si had three sons.
Darrell Bridwell and wife, Katie, Bill Bridwell and wife, Delora,
and Kenneth Bridwell and wife, Joyce.  She was preceded in death
by her husband, Si Bridwell on November 28, 1981, and by a son,
Darrell Bridwell, on April 23, 1990.  Survivors include sons, Bill
Bridwell, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Kenneth Bridwell, of
Wagoner, Okla.; 14 grand-children; 37 great-grandchildren; and

She was born June 20, 1913, in Balmorhea, Texas, to Henry and Mae
Wilson Hicks.  She was raised and educated in Colorado City, TX.
She married Lonnie Thomas "Bill" Britton in 1934 in Colorado City.
They moved to Carlsbad in 1935.  She was preceded in death by her
husband on February 7, 1987, and three brothers, Charlie Hicks,
Bill Hicks and Jack Hicks.  Survivors include a son, Bill Britton
of Englewood, Colo.; brother, Harvey Hicks of Carlsbad; and two
grandchildren.

Albuquerque, NM for Earl R. Brown of Artesia.  Brown, 81, died on
November 22.  He was married to Ruth Brown, who preceded him in
death in 1991.  Brown served in the US Air Force, retiring in 1983.
He was at the Bataan Death March during WWII and worked as a
slave in the salt mines in Japan.  He is survived by his sister,
Oleta Howland, husband Vince, of Carlsbad, NM; and nephew Charles
Earl Brown of Clyde, Texas.

DePauw on October 8, 1953, in Levelland, Texas.  They moved to
Artesia in 1959 from Levelland.  Survivors include his wife,
Vodine Brown, of the home; father C.V. Brown of Artesia; son
David Brown, wife Linda, of Mount Airy, NC; daughters Debbie
Golden, husband Jimmy, of Ward, Ark., Pam Thurman, husband Mike,

School, Artesia, NM, in 1938.  She married Paul Bruce on 
March 20, 1943.  They were married nearly 52 years before his
death in 1995.  She was a member of the Church of Christ since
childhood.  Survivors include a son, Charles R. Bruce of Carlsbad;
daughters, Jeanette Wolf of Hollister, Calif., and Toni Anita
Margaret Woodrum of Craig, Colo.; four granddaughters; and one

Closed casket services for Wilbert "Dick" Bryan, 80, of Artesia,
will be February 14 at Terpening and Son Chapel.  Interment will

Terpening and Son Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  He was
born June 1, 1919, in Wichita Falls, TX, to John Luther and
Ethel Grace Friberg Bryan.  He married Arietta "Mickie" Bryan in
1960 in Wichita Falls.  She preceded him in death on June 30, 1998.
They moved to Artesia from Wichita Falls in 1961.  He was of the
Methodist denomination and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a veteran of WWII having served with the Army.  Survivors
include a daughter, Patsy Ferguson of Wichita Falls; brother, Bobby
Bryan of Leander, TX; and two granddaughters.

BUDZAK
No services are scheduled for Michael Walter Budzak of 1101 W.
Merchant.  Budzak, 82, died on November 27 at 6406 Seven Rivers
Highway.  Cremation will be under the direction of Terpening
and Son Mortuary.  Budzak was born on November 21, 1917, in
Detroit, Mich., to John Budzak and Anastasia (Philips) Budzak.
He was never married.  He was an Able Seaman in the US Merchant
Marines and served during WWII in the US Navy.  He was a Catholic.
He is survived by guardians Donald and Rosemary Buechner of
Artesia, Stephanie Chavez of Phoenix, Ariz., and Donnie
Buechner of San Diego, California.
