He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Bradley, and a granddaughter, Vigilia Dominguez. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. He served with the Army's 593rd Amphibious Engineers in the South Pacific earning the rank of corporal. He married Frances Williams 58 years ago in Carlsbad. They made Carlsbad their home from 1950 to 1969 at which time they moved to Cisco, Texas. He and his family were long time members of Bethel Baptist Church. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as commander of the Carlsbad Lakeview Post and also as district commander. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and IBEW. They moved to Alpine, Texas, in 1959. They lived in Stephenville, Texas until about 1978 where he farmed and raised cattle. In 1978, they moved to Carlsbad. He became a resident of Lakeview Christian Home of the Southwest, Northgate Unit in 1996. He was preceded in death by five brothers, five sisters, an infant daughter, Vernell Cunningham, a daughter, Patricia Bascom, and his wife in 1975. Survivors include a son, Sammy D.
