DAVIS
Funeral services will be held on February 7 at West Funeral
Home Chapel, for Roy Dean "Fisty" Davis, 64, of Carlsbad.  He
died February 3 at his home.  West Funeral Home is in charge
of arrangements.  He was born October 5, 1935, to Clifford R.
and Hazel Yarbro Davis, in Barstow, TX.  His family moved to
Carlsbad when he was very young and it was here that he was
raised and educated.  In 1958, he began his own business, Davis
Tire Store in El Paso, TX, which he owned and operated for
36 years.  Upon retirement in 1992, he moved back to Carlsbad.
He was of the Baptist faith.  He was preceded in death by a
daughter, Cheri Davis, and a brother, George R. "Bob" Davis.
Survivors include sons, Wesley Davis of Carlsbad, Yancey Davis
of Hobbs, NM, and Roy Davis of Burney, Calif.; a daughter,
Charla Paternoster of Austin, TX; brothers, Ed Davis of Carlsbad
and Jim Davis of El Paso; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grand-

DELANEY
No local services are scheduled for Harold R. Delaney, who died
January 3 at his home.  Direct cremation has taken place under
the direction of Sunset Gardens Direct Cremation Service.  He 
was born to Mabel and William Delaney in Bridgeport, Conn.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Lawson Delaney, of the home;
a son, Leslie C. Delaney of Milford, Conn.; a daughter, Ginny
Lynn Stokes of Milford, Conn.; two brothers, Robert Delaney of
Long Island, NY, and William Delaney of East Hampton, Conn.;
and a sister, Gladys Hulse of Milford, Conn.

DEMARS
Graveside services are scheduled November 5, at Woodbine Cemetery
in Artesia, for Jimmy B. DeMars of 1105 Runyan.  DeMars, 45, died
on October 31 in Portales, NM.  Direct cremation is under the
direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.  He was born on 
October 1, 1954, in Artesia to Ted Basil DeMars and Mary Ruth
(Jones) DeMars.  He never married.  He was a member of First
Christian Church in Artesia.  He is survived by his father, Ted
DeMars of Artesia; sister Kay Mathis, husband Jack, of 
Bartlesville, Okla.; grandmother Dorothea DeMars of Trout, La.;
uncles Don DeMars, wife Anita, of Carlsbad, Calif., and James
Guy Jones of Artesia; and an aunt, Louise Windham, husband Fred,
of Trout.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ruth

DEPPE
Sylvia Pearl Deppe, 97, of Weed, NM, died on October 5 at
Casa de Oro Care Center in Las Cruces, NM.  A funeral service
will be at the Weed gymnasium, Friday, October 8.  Interment
will be in Weed Cemetery.  She was born on August 5, 1902, in
Carlsbad, NM, to S.A. and Addie Watkins.  She married Ervin
(Erb) Deppe on July 14, 1920.  He preceded her in death on
June 22, 1958.  They moved to Weed around 1925 and she was
postmistress there for many years.  She is survived by four
generations of nieces and nephews, including great-niece Kay
Needham of Artesia.  She was preceded in death by brothers
Tommy, Ray, Lloyd, and Charles Watkins; sisters Hattie McKinney
and Florence Campbell.

DEW
Services are scheduled for November 3, at Heritage Memorial 
Chapel in Waco, Tex., for former Artesia resident Jimmy Stuart
Dew of Hewitt, Texas.  Dew, 64, died on October 30 at his
residence.  Interment will follow at Waco Memorial Park.  He
was born on February 6, 1935, in Artesia to James Franklin Dew
and Averille Stuart Dew.  He served in the US Army and attended
First Baptist Church of Woodway.  Survivors include his wife,
Peggy Dew of Hewitt; mother Averille Dew of Artesia; daughter
Shelli Sellers, husband Rob, of Robinson, Tex.; stepdaughters
Barbara Locke of Deep River, Conn., Linda Valenta of Palo 
Alto, Calif., and Carolyn Locke of Fremont, Calif.; stepson
David Locke of Pocatello, Idaho; sisters Yvonne Polk and Connie
Lewis, both of Artesia; brother John Dew of Artesia; and eight
grandchildren.

DILLARD
No local services are planned for former Artesia resident
Paul Richardson Dillard of Truth or Consequences, NM.  Dillard,
92, died on January 24 at the New Mexico Veterans Center in
Truth or Consequences.  A former resident of Artesia, Dillard
was an attorney and practiced in Artesia, Roswell and Farmington.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a veteran of
World War II, having served in the US Army.  He was born in
Waurika, Okla., on February 4, 1907, to Ralph Hays Dillard and
the former Ollie (Richardson) Dillard.  He is survived by sons
David P. Dillard of Rociada, NM, and Philip H. Dillard of
Cedar City, UT; daughter Margaret D. Yoder of Highland, Calif.;
eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

DUDLEY
Laura Jean McMillan Dudley, formerly of Carlsbad, passed away
at home in Channelview, TX, on November 17, 1999, of lung cancer.
She was born in Carlsbad on April 11, 1941, and moved to the
Houston, TX area in 1965 where she married Billy Dudley, also
formerly of Carlsbad.  She was a long-time member of Channelview
Baptist Church.  She is survived by her husband; sons and
daughter-in-laws, Greg and Tammie Dudley, and Steven and Rene
Dudley all of Channelview; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and
the Rev. Jonathan Fitzgerald of Golden, TX; grandchildren, Erin
and Katelynn Dudley and Caleb Fitzgerald; and 27 nieces and
nephews.  She is buried next to her brother, Rusty, in
Dickerson Cemetery near San Augustine, Texas.  (Photo shown of Dudley)

DUNAWAY
Funeral services are scheduled January 5 at Valley View Baptist
Church in Snowflake, Ariz., for Ivy S. "Ike" Dunaway of Carlsbad.
Dunaway, 83, died January 1 in Show Low, Arizona.  Owens Mortuary
in Show Low is in charge of arrangements.  He was born in
Fouke, Arkansas.  At age 10, he moved with his family to Texas.
They later moved to Carlsbad, where he lived for many years.  He
married Velma Pegmon in Carlsbad.  The couple moved their family
to Snowflake, Ariz., in 1964.  His wife died in 1977.  He moved
back to Carlsbad, later marrying Maxine Austin in 1980 in Carlsbad.
The couple spent each Christmas in Snowflake.  He served in the
Navy at the end of WWII.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge in
Carlsbad.  He is survived by his wife of the home in Carlsbad;
three sons, Ray Dunaway of Carlsbad, Jim Dunaway of Taylor, Ariz.,
and Jerry Dunaway of Snowflake; a daughter, Darlene Cowart of
Grants, NM; a brother, Aubrey Dunaway of Las Vegas, Nev.; two
sisters, Rose Moore of Las Cruces and Doris Neilson of 
Atlantic City, NJ; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

DYCUS
Services will be February 19 at the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints, for Ashley Dawn Dycus, 9.  Interment will follow
at Carlsbad Cemetery.  She died February 15 at Covenant Medical
Center in Lubbock, TX.  Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge
of arrangements.  She was born September 6, 1990, to David Lee
and Elizabeth Marietta Conner Dycus in Carlsbad.  She was preceded
in death by a grandfather, Karl Conner on July 14, 1994.  Survivors
include her parents; sisters, Natosha Juarez and Stacy Juarez of
Greenville and Amanda Juarez of Carlsbad; paternal grandparents, 
James and Bonnie Dycus of Carlsbad; maternal grandmother, Juanita
Mae Conner Carter of Jourdan, Utah; and Maternal step-grandfather,
