GALATIAN
Funeral services for Richard I. Galatian, 90, of Albany, Texas,
and formerly of Artesia, NM, wil be held at Friendship Baptist
Church in Albany, today.  A graveside service will be held 
January 14 at Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia.  He died January 11
at Bluebonnet Nursing Home.  Richard Ivan Galatian was born
May 2, 1909, in Woodbine, Texas, the sixth and youngest child
of Robert and Eva Howard Galatian.  He married Margie Lindesmith
on November 19, 1928.  She preceded him in death in December 1955.
He then married Addie Wallace Cogburn in 1957.  His second wife,
Addie, also preceded him in death.  Survivors include a son,
Richard Galatian of Houston; daughters, Neva Chase of Artesia and
Treva Patton of Portales, NM; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grand-
children; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

GEARY
Funeral services for Ruth A. Geary, 81, will be January 8 at
St. Edwards Catholic Church.  Cremation will follow the service
with interment of cremated remains at a later date at Carlsbad
Cemetery.  Geary died January 4 at Lakeview Christian Home of
the Southwest Inc., Northgate Unit.  Denton-Funchess Funeral
Home is in charge of arrangements.  Ruth Alice Geary was born
July 1, 1918, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Albert G. and Erna L. 
Kuessel Meyers.  She was raised in the Milwaukee area, graduating
from Washington High School in Milwaukee.  She married Joseph R.
Geary on Apri 27, 1946.  They had their children in Milwaukee and
in 1964 moved to Fargo, ND.  In 1983, they moved to Carlsbad.
She was a member of the Lake Carlsbad Ladies Golf Association
and St. Edward's Catholic Church.  Survivors include her husband,
Joseph R. Geary of Carlsbad; daughters, Kathleen Elmore of
Atlanta Georgia and Susan Wilson of Houston, Texas; four grand-

GIBBS
Services are pending for Ernest N. Gibbs, 94, of Carlsbad.  A
funeral is planned to be held at the Church Street Church of the
Nazarene but a date has not been set.  Mr. Gibbs died January 10
at the Life Care Center in Farmington, NM.  Cope Memorial Chapel
in Farmington is in charge of arrangements.  Ernest N. Gibbs was
born September 23, 1905, in Gordon, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. N.S.
Gibbs.  He moved to Pittsburg County, Okla., in 1917 with his
family.  He married Mildred Goff in Wewoka, Okla., on August 4, 1927.
He moved to Carlsbad in 1940.  Mr. Gibbs was preceded in death
by an infant daughter.  He is survived by his wife of the home.

GILLUM
Graveside services are scheduled for Saturday, August 21, 1999,
at Pinon Cemetery for RUSSELL W. GILLUM of 76 Surveyors 
Canyon Road in Pinon, NM.  GILLUM, 34, died on August 16 at
M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, TX.  GILLUM was born on
April 29, 1965, in Port Arthur, TX, to James Robert Gillum
and Phyllis (Sowell) Gillum.  He was married to Ann Marie
Mussehl on September 20, 1997 in Pinon.  Survivors include
his wife, Ann M. Gillum of the home; parents James and
Phyllis Gillum of Pinon; son James Dean Gillum of Pinon;
daughters Ashley Gonzales of Clovis, NM and Christi
Gonzales of Pinon; grandparents Velma Sowell of Pinon and
Wilson and Gertrude Gillum of Kingsland, TX.  He was preceded
in death by his twin brother, Randall Lane Gillum in 1965 
and his grandfather Ray Sowell in 1973.

GOODSON
Jim Allen Goodson, 44, died December 25, 1999, at University
Hospital in Albuquerque, NM.  He was born June 30, 1955, in
Albuquerque.  He is survived by his daughters, Raylene Wall of
Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and Tana Statham of Sperry, Okla.;
mother, Helen Goodson of Belen, NM; grandmother, Dora Goodson of
Belen; brothers, Don Goodson of Norman, Okla., and Ken Goodson of
Belen; three grandchildren, Tyler and Nicole Statham and Naomi
Wall; and many nieces and nephews.  Cremation has taken place and
a memorial service will be at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian 
Church in Albuquerque on January 3.  Arrangements are by Direct
Funeral Services of Albuquerque.

GRAY, OLETON
Graveside services will be February 14 at Vashti Cemtery in
Vashti, Texas, for Oleton E. "Johnny" Gray, 75, of Mission Arch
in Roswell, NM.  He died February 12 at Eastern New Mexico
Medical Center in Roswell.  Terpening and Son Mortuary is in
charge of arrangements.  He was born March 18, 1924, in
Transylvania County, NC to Alexander Huston and Della Mae Allison
Gray.  He moved to Roswell on December 8, 1997, from Madill, Okla.
He served in the Army during WWII.  He was preceded in death
by brothers, Floyd, Odell, Oly, Alvia and Velvia; and sisters,
Annie Willie Gray and Leona Allison.  Survivors include sons,
Robert Gray of Sherman, TX, and Kenneth Gray of Sayre, Okla.;
daughters, Sharion Ham of Artesia, and Tamara Gray of Dallas, TX;
and six grandchildren.

GRAY, PAUL
Funeral services are scheduled Thursday, September 2, at 
First Baptist Church of Artesia for former Artesia resident
Paul Nelson Gray.  Gray, 81, died on August 30 in Lubbock, 
Texas.  Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery with full
military rites.  Gray was born on April 17, 1918, in Artesia
Mr. and Mrs. D.N. Gray.  He served in the Army during WWII.

GRIFFIN
MARION ANN LUNDEEN GRIFFIN died on September 5, 1999 at 
Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  She
was 84 years old.  She was born to Gustaf Adolphus Lundeen
and Ida Louise Nelson in Minneapolis on October 22, 1914.
She married Virlon Robert Griffin in Cresco, Iowa, on 
June 16, 1940.  She was preceded in death by her husband,
Virlon, in Roswell, NM, in March 1999.  Survivors include
her daughter Andrea, son-in-law Bill Carpenter, and grandson
Christopher; another daughter Gloria Hoglund, and husband
George Hoglund.  Joint memorial services for Marion and
Virlon Griffin are scheduled for Friday, September 10, at
First Baptist Church of Artesia.

GRIMES
A Funeral service is scheduled for Cody Lee Grimes, 17, on
January 19 at Landmark Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at
Carlsbad Cemetery.  He died January 13 at Covenant Medical Center
in Lubbock, Texas.  Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.  He was born September 15, 1982, to David W. Grimes
and Angelee Kincaid Grimes, in Carlsbad.  He is survived by his
parents of the home; three sisters, Doraifay Estrada of 
Albuquerque, NM and Rebecca Kay and Michelle E. Grimes, both of
Carlsbad; a paternal grandmother, Katherine Grimes of Carlsbad;
and a maternal grandfather, Harmon Wilson Kincaid of Carlsbad.

GRISSOM
Graveside services are scheduled Friday, October 1, at Twin Oaks
Memorial Park in Artesia, for former Artesia resident, Myrtle
Zelpha Grissom of Lebanon, Ore.  Grissom, 97, died on September 25,
at Lebanon Community Hospital.  She was born February 28, 1902,
in Cove, Ark., to Stephen Alexander and Hattie (Smith) Winters.
She married James J. Grissom on November 16, 1917, in Arkansas.
She moved to Weed, NM in 1941 and on to Artesia in 1942.  She
was a member of Hermosa Church of Christ in Artesia.  She then
moved to Lebanon, Ore., in 1964.  She is survived by sons Hallis
Grissom of Portales, NM, James Howard of Ada, OK, H. Stephen
Grissom and Herbert "Red" Grissom, both of Lebanon; daughters
Dorothy Younger of Artesia and Zelpha Carter of Elgin, TX; brother
Stephen Everett Winters of Aztec, NM; sister Mary Belle Merideth
of Roswell, NM; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters Lenora Matilda Carter and 
Mildred Doanghe; brothers Bruce Winters and Lee Cobb Winters;
and son Herman Wallace Grissom.
