Memorial services will be held at a later date for Richard B. Hahn
of Duluth, Georgia, who died January 20 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Cremation has taken place.  Hahn, 64, was born April 28, 1935,
in Austin, Texas, to C.E. and Cleo Hahn.  He attended school in
Carlsbad for most of his life before enlisting in the Navy.  He was
preceded in death by both parents and a brother, James A. Hahn.
He is survived locally by a niece, Suzanne Carlsen.  Survivors
include his wife, Kay Hahn of Duluth, Ga.; daughter, Roxanne
Gaigelas of Duluth; a brother, William B. Hahn of Bastrop, TX;
and two grandchildren.

No services are scheduled at this time for former Artesia
resident Mark Alan Ham of Roswell, NM.  Ham, 42, died on August 22
at his residence.  He was born on March 6, 1957, in Artesia to
James Thomas Ham and Jackie M. Daniels. He married Suzanne 
Verna Sowders in 1983. Arrangements are under the direction of
Ballard Funeral Home of Rowell.

HAMBLEN
Graveside services will be held on January 3 at Carlsbad Cemetery
for Glenn Hamblen.  Hamblen, 90, died December 31, at Canterbury
Villa Nursing Home.  West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born September 30, 1909, in Carlsbad, to Robert Naylor and
Netta Priscilla Cocker Hamblen.  He attended school in Carlsbad
and graduated with the class of 1927.  He married Glodie Joyce
Riodan on October 18, 1927, in Carlsbad.  He was a charter member
of Epworth Methodist Church.  He lived in Carlsbad until eight
years ago when he moved to Hobbs, NM, and then to Denver City, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Glodie Joyce Hamblen in 1983.
Survivors include a son, Robert C. Hamblen of La Luz, NM; daughter,
Judy Ann Findley of Gatesville, Texas; brother, Robert Brantley
Hamblen of Silver City, NM; sister, Alva Ruth Burke of Carlsbad;
six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-
grandchild.

HARRISON
Funeral services are scheduled for Donald C. Harrison, 80, on
January 8, at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will
follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.  He died January 2 at
Lakeview Christian Home of the Southwest, Inc., North Canal Unit.
Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  He was
born May 24, 1919, in Lost Creek, W.V., to Anderson Payton and
Mary McAvoy Harrison.  He was raised and educated in West Virginia.
He joined the Navy on March 31, 1942, and served in the SeaBees.
He met Zelda Francis Jarrell in Webster Springs, W.V., and they
were married March 13, 1945.  In 1953, they moved to Carlsbad.
He was a retired Baptist minister and was ordained October 18, 1964,
in Carlsbad.  He ministered in Carlsbad at La Huerta Baptist Church,
Happy Valley Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church and Standpipe
Road Baptist Church.  He also ministered in Dell City Baptist Church,
Dell City, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his wife on 
October 27, 1999; his parents; two brothers, Eldridge Harrison
and Jake Harrison; and a sister, Rebecca Snyder, all of West Virginia.
Survivors include a son, Gary Michael "Mike" Harrison and wife, 
Cathy, of San Antonio, Texas; stepson, Johnathan David "J.D."
Hudson of Torrance, Calif.; stepdaughter, Darlene A. Moutray and
husband, James A. of Carlsbad; brothers, Patrick Harrison of Carlsbad
and Lloyd Harrison of Webster Springs, W.V.; sister, Eleanor Daniels
of Ruckersville, Va.; six grandchildren, Terry L. Moutray of The
Colony, Texas, Gary Pardue Moutray of Fort Stockton, Texas, Heather
P. Harrison and Gregory M. Harrison of San Antonio, Texas, Sean Hudson
and Jon Hudson of Torrance, Calif.; and six great-grandchildren.

HAYNES
Services are December 22, at Terpening and Son Chapel for
Nannie Mae "Nancy" Haynes of 601 W. Missouri.  Haynes, 78,
died on December 20 at Artesia General Hospital.  Interment
will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
Haynes was born on June 23, 1921, in Carlsbad to Samuel S. Haynes
and Tina Mae (Cave) Haynes.  She was never married.  She was
a retired public school teach at Central Elementary in Artesia.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma,
Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, New Mexico's Teacher's Association
and the Retired Teacher's Association.  She is survived by
brothers Samuel S. Haynes and Clarence Dwight Haynes, both of
Lakeland, Fla.; sister Rebecca Cleere of Birmingham, Ala.; and
numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a
brother, Deroy Haynes, and her parents.

Services were December 22, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses
for Dovie Hays of Childress, Texas.  Hays, 65, died December 21.
Burial was at Childress Cemetery.  Born February 1, 1934, in Wood
County, Texas, to Gertrude and Henry David Willingham, she was
married to Billy Hays.  Hays was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Hays of Childress; mother,
Gertrude Willingham of Mineola, Texas; daughters Debra Hayes of
Childress and Linda McClure and her husband, Frankie, of Artesia;
sisters Lorene Blalock, Pearlie Blalock and Marie Hollingsworth, 
all of Mineola, Dorothy Moore of Amarillo, Texas, and Ruth Womack
of Galena, Kansas; and two grandchildren.  She was preceded in death
by her father in 1980 and by two brothers.

Services were held September 27 at Jackson Avenue Baptist Church
in Lovington, NM for Carl R. Hennington of Lovington.  Hennington,
72, died September 24 at Lea Regional Hospital in Lea County, NM.
Burial was at Resthaven Cemetery.  He was born September 5, 1927,
in Big Square, TX.  He married Virginia Downward on December 18, 1954.
She preceded him in death on November 14, 1989.  He married Susie
Small on August 24, 1991.  He was a member of Jackson Avenue
Baptist Church.  Survivors include his wife, Susie Hennington of
Lovington; daughters Cathy Ogle and her husband, Harold, of 
Hobbs, NM and Gayle Brigance and her husband, Larry, of Artesia;
stepsons Robert Thienes and Brandon Thienes, both of Las Vegas, NV;
brother Robert Leo Hennington of Scottsdale, AZ; numerous grand
children, a niece and a nephew.  He was preceded in death by his
parents.

Fellowship for Irene Henry.  Henry, 74, died on February 5, in
Artesia.  She was born December 15, 1925, in Juniper, New Brunswick,
Canada, the daughter of Blanchard Tompkins and Grenaviere (Chase)
Tompkins.  She married George W. Henry on November 17, 1949, in
New Brunswick.  She came to Artesia in 1984 from Laconia, NH.
He preceded her in death March 11, 1985.  She was preceded in 
death by her parents; daughter Judith Ann Henry on August 9, 1974;
and two sisters and two brothers.  Survivors include son, Jonathan
Henry of Artesia; and brothers Gerald Tompkins and Mansell Tompkins,
both of New Brunswick.

Services were January 24 in Tennessee for Dolores Sanchez Hernandez
of Farragut, Tennessee.  Hernandez, 60, died on January 23 at St.
Mary's Hospice Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.  She was born on
January 29, 1939, in Carlsbad, NM to Bonificio and Marcelena
Navarette Sanchez.  She was a member of the Jefferson Church of
Christ in Hobbs, NM.  She was preceded in death by her parents
and brothers Juan and Daniel Sanchez.  She is survived by five
children; 16 grandchildren; sisters Lydia Ortega and Albesa Sanchez,
both of Artesia; brothers Santos Sanchez of Artesia, Antonio Sanchez
of Hagerman, NM, and Manuel, Frank, Raymond, Jose and Bonificio
(Bonnie) Sanchez, all of Roswell, NM, and Samuel Sanchez of 
Carlsbad; and several nieces and nephews.

HESLER
Memorial services will be held for John B. Hesler, 81, of
Pensacola, Fla., on February 12 at First Baptist Church in
Carlsbad.  Hesler died February 6 at his home in Pensacola after
a bout with cancer.  Casket Galleria of Pensacola is in charge
of arrangements.  He was born John P. "Jack" Hesler on 
January 14, 1919, in Glencoe, Ill., to George W. and Rose Anna
Petticlair Hesler.  He graduated from Texas College of Mines and
Metallurgy (UTEP) in 1941 as a mining engineer.  He served as a
captain in the USAAF in Indonesia and China.  He was preceded in
death by eight brothers and sisters.  Survivors include his wife,
Barbara Morrison Hesler of Pensacola; sons, Ronald Hesler of
Jakarta, Indonesia, and Stephen Hesler of Pensacola; daughter,
Pamela Jo Hesler of Decatur, Ga.; five grandchildren; and several

HICKS
Graveside services for Sadie M. Hicks, 87, will be January 12 at
Carlsbad Cemetery.  Hicks, died January 7 at her daughter's home
in El Paso, Texas.  West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sadie M. Hicks was born July 24, 1912, in Carlsbad to William 
Bennett and Mary Caroline Ohnemus Wheeler.  She was raised and 
educated in Carlsbad.  She married Clyde W. Hicks on December 24, 1928
in Carlsbad.  The couple moved to Artesia and lived there until 
his death on January 6, 1952.  She returned to Carlsbad.  She lived
in Carlsbad and El Paso, Texas with her daughter, Norma Webb.  She
was a member of First United Methodist Church and Elks BPOE #43.
She is survived by two sons, Clyde B. Hicks of Farmington, NM, and
Ed Hicks of Carlsbad; a daughter, Norma Gale Webb of El Paso, Texas;
a sister, Judy Floyd of Farmington, NM; six grandchildren; and

Services were held Monday, September 27, at New Hope Baptist 
Church in Hobbs, NM for former Artesia resident Ed Hollis of
Portales, NM.  Hollis, 75, died on September 24 at his home south
of Portales.  He was born on November 30, 1923, in Winniewood, OK.,
to Laura and Tom Hollis.  He moved to Artesia in 1943 from
Winniewood.  He married Ida Winnell Merrell on February 25, 1947
in Carlsbad, NM.  He moved to Portales in 1984.  He is survived
by his wife Ida Winnell Hollis of Portales; sons Carey Hollis,
wife Paula, of Houston, TX, Russell Lee Hollis of Portales,and
Van Hollis of Houston; daughters Ova Fagen, husband Neil, of
Hobbs, and Gail Sikes, husband David, of Portales; and five
grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, six
brothers and two sisters.

Artesia for Mildred L. Holly.  Holly, 71, died February 4 in

Star Graveside Rites.  She was born June 7, 1928, in Claude, Texas,
the daughter of Robert Dalton Finley and Clara Elizabeth (Braddock)
Finley.  She married Leroy Holly on October 18, 1947, in 
Lubbock, Texas.  She came to Artesia from Lubbock in 1947.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern
Star.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother 
Robert D. Holly Jr.  Survivors include her husband, Leroy Holly of
the family home; sons Robert Benjamin Holly, wife Debbie, of
Alvord, Texas, and Richard Lee Holly, wife Gloria, of Von Ormy, TX;
daughter Margie Elizabeth Aaron, husband Randy, of San Antonio, TX;

death by a niece, Donna Sue Hyatt, in July 1987.  Survivors include
a sister, Sybil Black of Carlsbad; half-brother, Walter Lunsford of
Carlsbad; and two nieces.

of 2200 W. Richardson, Space 6, Artesia.  Huffman, 72, died on
December 25 at Covenant Medical in Lubbock, Texas.  Cremation will
be under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.  He was born
on September 1, 1927, in Dayton, NM, to Joe Floyd Huffman and 
Willie (Adam) Huffman.  He married Eunice Poston on November 7, 1975,
in Anson, Texas.  He was a member of the Church of Christ and 
served in WWII.  He is survived by his wife, Eunie Huffman of the
family home; sons Jerry McGuairt of Fort Stockton, Texas, and
Tim James, wife Susan, of Artesia; daughters Pat Eaker, husband
Clint, of Artesia and Wynona Cross of Albuquerque, NM; sister
Barbara Horn of Gillespie, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-
grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, first
wife Grace Huffman, and a sister, Rose Katherine Whygles.

School Auditorium for Reese Kyle Hunter of Artesia.  Hunter,16,

with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery.  He was born
February 4, 1983, in Artesia, the son of Albert Wesley (Bo) Hunter
and Kristy Lynne (Stewart) Hunter.  He was a junior at Artesia
High School.  He was a lifelong resident of Artesia.  He was a
member of the church families of First United Methodist Church
and First Baptist Church; Fellowship of Christian Athletes,
Artesia High School Football Team; Artesia High School Golf Team;
and National Honor Society.  Survivors include mother Kristy
Hunter and fiance Jay Powell of Artesia; father Bo Hunter of
Artesia; brothers, Bryan Hunter of Artesia and Justin Powell of
Dexter; sister Jamie Powell of Artesia; grandparents Maurice and
Joyce Stewart and LaVerne Clarkston, all of Artesia; and numerous

Magrass Ranch in Santa Clara County, CA, to Charles Francis
Benzon Diaz and Mami Suza (Borba) Benson Diaz.  She married Jack
Hunter in 1953 in Santa Cruz, CA.  She was a catholic.  She is
survived by her husband, Jack Hunter, of the home; daughters
Sandra Hunter and Marsha Moreno, both of Artesia; sister Marie
Maggie of San Jose, CA; brothers Bill Benzon Diaz of Turlock, CA.
