Salgado was born December 3, 1929, in Pilares, Ojinaga, Mexico, to Blass and Micoela Trujillo Salgado. He married Aurora Morrison in Artesia on December 12, 1951. She preceded him in death in 1995. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She preceded him in death as well as his parents and a son, Danny Sanders. He served in the US Navy during WWII. She died January 9 at Lakeview Christian Home. Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born on January 25, 1920 to Henry A. and Katherine Brown Selleck in Bisbee, Ariz. She grew up in El Paso, Texas, where she lived most of her life and graduated from El Paso High School in 1938. She became a policewoman for the El Paso Police Department in the early 1960's, until her retirement in 1975. She then moved to Carlsbad. She attended First United Methodist Church. She donated her body to the Texas Tech University School of Medicine anatomical donations. Her only survivors include a nephew, A.E. "Gene" Bickerstaff of Carlsbad; and friend, Harriette Kirby. Lorraine "Lucky" Shirley was born May 12, 1931, in Hartford, Conn. She was raised and educated in Hartford, graduating from high school there. She and her dad moved to Raton, NM after her graduation. She became a horse trainer for the racetrack in Raton. She married Chesley "Tex" Shirley on January 19, 1956. They formed a band named "The Best of Tex and Lucky, The Traveling Sweethearts" and performed throughout New Mexico and the Southwest. Tex died in July 1980. She then moved to Loving, NM. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include sons, Darwin D. Shirley of Seminole, Texas, and Warren D. "Flip" Shirley of Caldwell, Texas; daughters, Debara B. Shirley of Caldwell, Nada E. O'Conner of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Annala J. Smith of 1805 Runyan. Smith, 83, died on August 21 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery. Smith was born on October 18, 1915, in Gilmer, Texas. He was the son of Jake Smith and Frances M. (Baxter) Smith. He married Pat Green in Gilmer, Texas on October 29, 1947. They came to Artesia in 1951 from Clovis, NM. Services were held at Calvary Baptist Church in Portales, NM. Smith, 91, died October 23 at her home. Interment was at Portales Cemetery. She was born April 7, 1908, in Leonard, Tex., the daughter of Ellen and James Monroe Frazier. She married Luther Smith in Bonham, Tex., on October 25, 1926. They moved to Lake Arthur in 1928. He preceded her in death in 1932. In 1946 she moved to Portales. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Portales. She moved back to Lake Arthur in 1994, and became a member of First Baptist Church there. Survivors include son Bill Smith, wife Wilma, of Portales; daughter Vera Foster, husband Charles, of Lake Arthur; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister; nine brothers; one grandson, Michael Foster, who died as an infant; and son Wesley F. Stinnett. Stinnett, 94, died February 7 in El Paso, Texas. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia. Burial will be with Masonic Graveside Rites. Stinnett was born February 23, 1905, in Portales, NM, the son of Samuel Henry Stinnett and Mary Jane Stinnett. He married Helen Green on May 25, 1932, in Artesia. She preceded him in death on August 3, 1997. His professional life was spent in the field of education. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a Worth Grand Patron Order of Eastern Star for the state of New Mexico in 1947-48 and served as Watchman of the Shepherds for White Shrine of Jerusalem. Survivors include a son Arba Stinnett of Novato, Calif.; a daughter Rosemary Harral of Golden, Colo.; three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. Stueland, 79, today at Carlsbad Cemetery. He died January 16 at his home. Denton- Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born June 5, 1920, in Stony Run Township near Clarkfield, Minn., to Hans J. and Minnie Mickelson Stueland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In 1939, he graduated from high school. He inlisted in the Air Force serving in WWII as a nose gunner of a B-24 Liberator in the South Pacific. He married Norma Nelson in 1945. Following an honorable discharge from the service, he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, Minn. He and his wife moved to Carlsbad in 1985 after living in Moline, Ill., and Dubuque, Iowa, designing and testing John Deere tractors for 37 years. While living in Dubuque, he was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1986; sister, Ruby Oxtra; and five brothers, Arthur, Clifford, Harold, Reuben, and Richard. Funk Sylvester of Fallbrook. Sylvester, 83, died on December 27 at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, Calif. She was born May 21, 1916, in Artesia, to a pioneer farm family in the Cottonwood area. Her parents, Jesse and Azilee Funk were early settlers in the Cottonwood community where she attended school and the Methodist Church. She married Ray Sylvester in Santa Fe, NM. She is survived by her son J. Dale Sylvester of Fallbrook; daughter Marye L. Reed of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; sister Marjorie Thigpen of Artesia; two grandchildren; and two great- granddaughters.
