Submitted By: Richard Wilkinson ************************************************************ EDDY COUNTY, NEW MEXICO ROCKY ARROYO CEMETERY RECORDS Records extracted by Richard Wilkinson Typing by Richard Wilkinson Dec 1999 Submittal by Richard Wilkinson Dec 1999 ROCKY ARROYO CEMETERY ESTABLISHED 1880's The Rocky Arroyo Cemetery can be found just off the road on State Highway 137(also known as the Queen's Highway). This cemetery is 5.6 miles south of Highway 285. To get there from Carlsbad, NM, you must go north on Highway 285 about 12 miles from the city limits and turn left (south) on highway 137. The GPS (Global Positioning System) coordinates are: 32 deg 27 min 38 sec North and 104 deg 27 min 25 sec West at 3571 ft. above sea level. The margin of error is 32 feet. This cemetery is an old one for the county. The people buried here are residents that lived in this very remote, foot hill, desert ranch area. The Rocky Arroyo (which can be seen from this site) provides water for the range animals, wild life and the ranchers. As you will see from the names, families are found in this cemetery. I have made every effort to provide accuracy in this record. If you find that you are related to anyone here, I will be most happy to go to the cemetery and get a photo or rubbing for you, just e-mail me . Several of the interment sites are marked only with a flat sand stone from the area with no name. A few of the interment sites have the original funeral home marker but are so old and weathered that the names and dates cannot be read. A few of the markers are showing signs of age and not all of the information can be read. The data presented here is presented in about the same position as found. NOT in alphabetical order.
