UPPER HOPE Cemetery Records, Eddy County, New Mexico Hope Area Submitted By: Shary Bullock srbullock@pvtnetworks.net ************************************************************************** UPPER HOPE CEMETERY,EDDY COUNTY, NEW MEXICO Records extracted by Shary Bullock Typing by Shary Bullock Feb 2000 Submitted by Shary Bullock Feb 2000 The Upper Hope Cemetery is 2 1/2 miles West of the village of Hope,NM on US Highway 82. It can be plainly seen about 100 yds.on the North side of Hwy 82. It is located on the N.W. quarter of Sec. 22; Twp 17, N.Range E. The GPS Coordinates are 32 degrees 49 min 31 sec N. X 104 degrees 46 min 42 sec W. Margin of error is 42 ft. Altitude is about 4000 ft. I did a walk-through of this cemetery in Feb.2000. I also used the records of Chester Walkup,1979 and Fern McCabe Wilson,1986. The gate entering the cemetery runs from S.N., dividing the area into two sections, the East Section and the West Secton. (Please shut the gate) Followed the previous listings, I started from the N.E. Corner of the E. Section walking South. The New Mexico wind and sun have taken their toll on many of the markers and stones. Some sites have markers that cannot be read, some have only a flagstone or a wooden stake for a marker. There are at least 75 unmarked sites. The earliest marked grave is 1893.
