Current Argus - March 3, 2000 FAWCETT, VIRGINIA D. Memorial services will be March 4 at First Presbyterian Church for Virginia D. Fawcett, 89. Interment of cremains will be sometime in June at Oakwood Cemetery, Rochester, Minnesota. Cremation has taken place. She died February 21 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born October 16, 1910 in Warrensburg, IL to William Stewart and Clara Jessie Hartenbower Dando. She grew up in Kansas, Illinois and Colorado, graduating from high school in Emporia, Kansas. She was a registered nurse. She was associated with Mayo Clinic and worked in the Ophthalmology Department from 1931 to 1936. She married Joseph Clayton Fawcett, DDS, on September 8, 1934, in Rochester. They moved to Carlsbad in 1960 to care for her elderly parents. She was preceded in death by her husband on February 27, 1955; a daughter at birth, Linda Fawcett; and by a nephew. Survivors include a son, William Joseph Clayton Fawcett and wife, Robin, of Carlsbad; daughter, Sherry F. Kearns and husband, Robert S. of Carlsbad; brother, Llewellyn S. Dando and wife, Mariesther, of Chambersburg, PA; sister, Mary Jane Ballard and husband, William, of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four nephews; and one niece. Services will be February 9 at St. Edward Catholic Church for George A. Felton, 54. Burial will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery. He died February 5, at his home. Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born January 5, 1946, to Ward Felton and Maxine Teresa Smith Felton in Carlsbad, where he was raised. He graduated from Carlsbad High School. At 17, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. In 1971, he returned to Carlsbad. He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Rosentreter of Killeen, Texas, and Ruby M. Felton of Carlsbad; his mother of Carlsbad; two brothers, Don Felton of Carlsbad and Robert Felton of Los Angeles, Calif.; and three sisters, Teresa Felton Robinson and Delma Marcella Felton, both of Tucson, Ariz., and Alma Mock of Reno, Nevada. Flores, 80, died March 15 at his home. Cremation has taken place. He was born March 28, 1919, in Sabinal, TX, to Camillo Flores and Petra (Lara) Flores. He married Benina Ontiveros in 1987 in Sabinal, TX. They came to Hope in 1993 from Sabinal. He served in the US Army during WWII. She was born in Carlsbad on September 18, 1957, to Santos Bejarano Parraz and Rosa Carrera Machuca Parraz. She was raised in Loving, NM and attended Loving and Carlsbad schools. In 177, she married Christobal Florez in Loving. She was preceded in death by her father on February 20, 1999. She died on May 1 at a Fort Worth, TX hospital. Interment will be in Elmwood Memorial Park. She was born on June 22, 1930, in Denver, CO, and grew up in Artesia, where she graduated from high school. She married Rev. Kenneth E. Ford of Abilene on November 13, 1949, in Artesia. He died in 1992. Survivors include her mother, Marion S. Dunnam of Artesia; son Mike Ford, wife Jean, of Glen Rose, TX; daughters Nida Chambers, husband Craig, of Big Lake, TX, and Terri R. Box on January 5, 1952, in Fort Eustice, Va. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Richard Fox of Carlsbad; sons, Lynn R. Fox of Mesa, Ariz. and Jeffery L. Fox of Ribera; daughters, Karen V.Wright of Colorado City, Colo., and Linda A. She married Alfredo Torres Franco in February 1947. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978 and a brother, Danny Munoz. Survivors include a son, Alfredo Franco Jr. of Albuquerque, NM; daughters, Cesilia Medrano, Margarita Chavez and Juanita Jojola of Carlsbad; sisters, Isabel Dominguez, Santos Rodriguez and Nicki Biscaino of Carlsbad; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was born August 6, 1908, to William Renfro and Eloyce Mills Smith in Holland, TX. She was the daughter of a blacksmith shop owner. At age 13, her family moved to Temple, TX for two years, then to Waco, TX. She graduated from Waco High School in 1926. She met George Frazier and they were married on April 20, 1932, following a lengthy courtship and engagement. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, Aubrey Smith. Survivors include her husband of the home. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. He married Claudette Mullins on August 31, 1962. He moved to Carlsbad in 1990. He attended Victory Baptist Church and was a member of the Emmaus Community. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Darin French of Carlsbad and Derek French of Dover, AR; and four grandchildren. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery. She died January 15 at Lakeview Christian Home, Northgate Unit, following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's disease. West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born September 25, 1929, to Lucian and Johnnie V. Fletcher in Loving, NM, where she grew up. She graduated from Carlsbad High School. She married Frank Albert Forni Sr., the same year she graduated, 1949. She and Frank made their home at the family home of Fred Forni on what was known originally as the Poteet Farm, near Otis, NM. Frank died on August 8, 1960. She married Leon J. Frerich in July of 1961. He died on July 18, 1987. She was a long-time member of St. Edward Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by both her husbands; three sons, Frederick Thomas Forni, Frank Albert Forni Sr. and Johnny Ray Forni; and her mother, Johnnie V. Fletcher. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Bill and Donna Estes of Albuquerque, NM, and Beth and Mike Ackman of Carlsbad; her father, Lucian Thomas Fletcher of Artesia; four brothers, Loy and B.L. (Cuck) both of Artesia, Bob of Las Vegas and Ray of Farmington, NM; 10 grand- children; and four great-grandchildren. (Photo shown of Frerich) |
