Graveside services will be March 27 for WILFORD B. PARKER, at Hagerman Cemetery in Hagerman, NM. Parker, 64, died March 24 at the University Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. He was born June 24, 1935, in Kiowa, OK, the son of C.E. Parker and Lester (Mills) Parker. He was a lifelong Hagerman and Dexter area resident. He was a disabled veteran who served in the Navy. Survivors include a daughter, Deloris Stone of McAlester, OK; son James Parker of Atlanta, GA; brothers, J.C. Parker of Roswell, NM, Emmitt Parker and J.B. Parker of Artesia; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Centre Ave. Apt G4. Parks, 65, died January 20 in Artesia. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery. She was born on November 28, 1934, in Marshall, Texas, the daughter of H.T. Sands and Minnie Jane (Ingram) Sands. She married Levi Parks in 1968, in California. She came to Artesia in 1945 from Forney, Texas, moved to California in the early 1950's and returned to Artesia in 1996. She was a licensed evangelist. She was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie J. Taylor and H.T. Sands; stepfather Curtis Taylor Sr.; and daughter Ruth Ann Giles. Survivors include son Horace Giles, wife Rachell, of Lubbock, Texas; brothers Jimmy Lee Taylor, wife Roberta, of Artesia, and Curtis Adell Taylor of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two aunts; many cousins; and former husband Samuel Giles Sr., of San Antonio, Texas. She was born August 22, 1921, to Bruce M. and Beulah F. Thornton Lindsey in Elmore City, Oklahoma. She married Dort Henry Pearson on August 30, 1942. In 1943 they moved to Tucson, Ariz., and then to Carlsbad in 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on February 12, 1994, two brothers and a granddaughter. Survivors include sons, Keith Pearson and wife, Julie, of Mt. Vernon, Ill., Duane Pearson and wife, Jackie, of Carlsbad, and Stacy Pearson and wife, Esther, who are missionaries in the Islamic Republic of the Comores; brother, Bruce Lindsey of Comanche, Okla.; sister, Jean Martin of Carlsbad; grandchildren and great-grand- children. Funeral services are scheduled for Earl C. Pelton, 82, on January 10 at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born December 2, 1917, in Oilton, Okla., to Charles J. and Edith Stout Pelton. He grew up in Kansas, living in Eldorado, Ford County and Rice County on a farm. On August 28, 1944, he married Helen M. Hall in Hutchinson, Kansas. He had served in the Army during WWII. In 1948, he and his wife moved to Carlsbad. He was a member of the VFW Bryan Mudget Post and the DAV. He was a lifetime member of BPOE 1558. He retired as a captain in the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Pelton. Survivors include his wife, Helen Pelton of Carlsbad; son, Larry E. Pelton of Cherokee Village, Ark.; brother, Elmer L. Pelton of Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He married Natalia Jimenez on November 27, 1942, in Marfa, TX. The couple moved to Artesia from Marfa in 1948. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and Moose Lodge. Survivors include his wife of the home; sons, Faustino Perez Jr. of Midland, TX, Ruben Perez of Artesia, and Ricky Perez of Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Emma Salgado of Artesia and Yolanda Leyba of Odessa, TX; brothers, Henry Perez and Gonzalo Perez, both of Artesia; sisters, Cruz Galindo of Artesia, Natividad Ramirez of Artesia, Marianna Carrasco of Artesia, Aramita Montez of Artesia, and Rosas Molina of Hobbs, NM; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He lived in Artesia, Littlefield, Roswell, and then moved to Carlsbad in 1988. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1962 and spent the majority of his adult life in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born December 26, 1908, in Alto, LA, to John Vaughn and Nettie Pardue Hemler. Her family moved to Carlsbad when she was young. She graduated from Carlsbad High in 1925. She married John H. Perry, her husband of 65 years, on September 24, 1934. She was the first woman on the Carlsbad City Council, president of the Altrusa Organization, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, Albert Cleve Hemler, on August 14, 1993, and her sister, Louise Malone, about six months ago in Louisiana. Survivors include her husband of the family home; son, John Perry of Carlsbad; daughter, Carolyn Files of San Diego, CA; and four grandchildren. Peters, 83, died February 29 at his home. Interment will follow at Pinon Cemetery. He was born December 17, 1916, in Clay County, Ark., to James and Grace Peters. He married Edna Young in Truth or Consequences, NM. He lived in Sacramento, NM from 1968 to 1980. He served as camp ranger for the Boy Scouts of America at Camp Wehinapay for several years. He had worked on a ranch in Pinon from 1980 to 1987. He lived in Lovington for the past 13 years and attended House of Prayer there. Survivors include his wife, Edna, of the family home; daughters Bonnie Curtis, Pat Sexton and Denzil Beaty, all of Kingsland, TX; stepson Darrell Young of Lovington; sisters Deranda O'Bryant of Truth or Consequences and Lucille Ritter of The Dallas, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grand- children. Petersen, 85, died on December 30 at her son's home, 1110 N. Roselawn in Artesia. She was born October 22, 1914, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Henry Mangen and Elizabeth (Van-Elmt) Mangen. She married Carl Milford Petersen in Minneapolis. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1970. She was a longtime resident of Maple Plain. She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Medina, Minn. She is survived by sons Raymond Petersen of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Thomas Petersen of Garrison, Minn., Lawrence Petersen of Brainerd, Minn., Jeff Petersen of Montrose, Minn., Vincent Petersen of Artesia, Steve Petersen of Elk River, Minn., Greg Petersen of Anoka, Minn., and Kevin Petersen of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; daughters Carolyn Sargent of Crosslake, Minn., Mary Sherbrooke of Otsego, Minn., and Cecilia Schulte of Navarre, Minn.; 22 grand- children; and 19 great-grandchildren. He lived in Ark., until the age of 20 when he enlisted in the US Army on June 13, 1940. He was a decorated veteran and served with Company B, 8th Infantry, 4th Division. He stormed the beaches of Normandy and was also involved in the Rhineland and Northern France Campaigns. He received the EAME Service Ribbon with three bronze service stars and one bronze arrowhead, American Defense Service Ribbon, Distinguished Unit Badge and the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on September 7, 1945. He married Catherine Mitchell Pitts in Carlsbad on March 4, 1962. He was a lifetime Mason, being initiated on August 11, 1975, and raised on December 15, 1975. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Martha Jane. Survivors include his wife, Katy Pitts of the home; son, Jerry Pitts and wife, Virginia, of Hobbs, NM; daughters, Judy Webster and husband, Klint, of Denver,CO, and Barbara Neatherlin and husband, Don, of Roswell, NM; brothers, R.J. He was manager of Central Valley Electric, a member of First Presbyterian Church, former Artesia city councilor, chairperson of the Artesia Special Hospital District Board and a former chairman of United Way. He was in the Army Reserves.
