Memorial services will be held at a later date for Richard B. Hahn
of Duluth, Georgia, who died January 20 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Cremation has taken place. Hahn, 64, was born April 28, 1935,
in Austin, Texas, to C.E. and Cleo Hahn. He attended school in
Carlsbad for most of his life before enlisting in the Navy. He was
preceded in death by both parents and a brother, James A. Hahn.
He is survived locally by a niece, Suzanne Carlsen. Survivors
include his wife, Kay Hahn of Duluth, Ga.; daughter, Roxanne
Gaigelas of Duluth; a brother, William B. Hahn of Bastrop, TX;
and two grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for March 8 at First Baptist Church for
Polly Haines. Haines, 79, died March 6 at her home. Burial will
be at Woodbine Cemetery. She was born July 31, 1920, in
Ranger, TX, the daughter of Bert Way and Blanche Way. She married
Blaine B. Haines on December 31, 1948, in Alamogordo, NM. She was
a member of First Baptist Church and Beta Sigma Phi sorority for
more than 50 years. Survivors include her husband of the family
home; sons Jimmy Hearrell and wife Carol of Farmington Hills, Mich.,
and Steve Haines and wife Olivia of Artesia; and two grandchildren.

HALBERT, MINNIE MORGAN
Services for Minnie Morgan Halbert, 102, of Vernon, TX, will be today
at First United Methodist Church in Vernon. Graveside services will be
held May 12 at Carlsbad Cemetery. She died May 8, at a Vernon, TX
hospital. Sullivan Funeral Home is in charge of Texas arrangements.
Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. She
was born June 19, 1897, to David Ferebee and Quinnie Middlebrook Ferebee.
She was one of 10 children. She married A.A. Halbert on December 20, 1944,
in Carlsbad. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1970. She was
a graduate of Clarendon High School, Clarendon College and Denton Texas
College for Women where she received her teaching certificate. In 1998,
she was honored at Clarendon College and designated queen of the
celebration being the oldest living graduate. She taught school at
Quail, Hedley and Claude, Texas. In 1942, she moved to Roswell, NM.
In 1978, she moved back to Vernon. She was a member of First United
Methodist Church. She was also a member of Eastern Star, Business and
Professional Women, and a 25 year member of DAR. Survivors include a
sister, Lydia Belle Wilkinson of Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

HALL, BERTHA BOHANNON
Memorial services will be March 24, at Grace United Methodist Church
in Alamogordo, NM, for Bertha Bohannon Hall of Alamogordo. Hall, 79,
died March 20 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM. Cremation
has taken place. She was born on August 3, 1920, in Mesilla, NM,
the daughter of Virgil and Dovie Bohannon. She graduated from
Western New Mexico University and taught in Dona Ana. She married
James Maynard Hall on June 30, 1940. She was active in the
Laureate Alpha Gamma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, where she received
a master's degree, the Golden Circle, the Order of the Rose and the
Silver Circle. Survivors include sons Doug Hall, wife Alice, and
Brad Hall, wife Billie, all of Las Cruces; daughters Jeri Sanders,
husband Jimmy, and Freddie Martin, husband Skip, all of Alamogordo;
sister Joy Hartley, husband Carl, of Las Cruces; brother John
Bohannon of Palo Verde, Calif.; sister-in-law Melba Jo Donovon of
Artesia; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brother, Virgil C.
Bohannon Jr.

HAMBLEN, GLENN
Graveside services will be held on January 3 at Carlsbad Cemetery
for Glenn Hamblen. Hamblen, 90, died December 31, at Canterbury
Villa Nursing Home. West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born September 30, 1909, in Carlsbad, to Robert Naylor and
Netta Priscilla Cocker Hamblen. He attended school in Carlsbad
and graduated with the class of 1927. He married Glodie Joyce
Riodan on October 18, 1927, in Carlsbad. He was a charter member
of Epworth Methodist Church. He lived in Carlsbad until eight
years ago when he moved to Hobbs, NM, and then to Denver City, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Glodie Joyce Hamblen in 1983.
Survivors include a son, Robert C. Hamblen of La Luz, NM; daughter,
Judy Ann Findley of Gatesville, Texas; brother, Robert Brantley
Hamblen of Silver City, NM; sister, Alva Ruth Burke of Carlsbad;
six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-
grandchild.

HAMILTON, JOHN R.
There will be no local services for John R. Hamilton, 79, of Carlsbad.
Cremation has taken place. Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge
of arrangements. He was born June 30, 1921, in Chicago to Gordon
Kennedy and Frances Jane McDermott Hamilton. He grew up in Chicago.
He joined the Army in 1939, at age 18. He was sent to the Pacific
where he was stationed and engaged in many of the Japanese offensives.
He was sent back to the states due to war fatigue. He was placed
back into duty with General Patton's 3rd Army, where he was involved
in the retaking of Europe. He was a highly decorated soldier,
receiving multiple Silver Stars and Bronze Stars. He was discharged
after the war. He re-enlisted five years later where he saw action
during the Korean Conflict and later served in the Vietnam War as a
Green Beret. He was assigned as an instructor in jungle survival
training and subsequently taught at the 82nd Airborne Jump School.
In 1971, he was discharged after 34 years of military service. In
1972, he and his wife moved to Carlsbad where he taught ROTC. He
was inducted into the Infantry Hall of Fame at Fort Benning, GA.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Hamilton. Survivors
include his wife, Mary Hamilton of Carlsbad; brother, George Hamilton
of Carlsbad; and sister, Mary Adele Hartell of Campbell, CA.

HARDAWAY, MAYMIE BRITTAIN

Maymie Brittain Hardaway, mother of Donella Rodgers of Eunice, NM, and
Lois Shearman of Lovington, NM, and Thomas D. Hardaway of Carlsbad,
passed away in Midland, TX on March 22, 2000. Arrangements are being
made by Ellis Funeral Home in Midland, and Smith-Rogers Funeral Home in
Lovington. She was born January 19, 1905, in Eastland County, about
five miles northwest of Ranger, TX, the third child born to Tressie Work
Brittain and Thomas J. Brittain. Survivors include one sister and
brother-in-law, Midgie Brittain Bates and James Bates of Shelton, WA;
two sisters-in-law, Estelle Brittain and Veta Britain of Odessa, TX;
and a brother-in-law, Thomas Hardaway and wife, Beverly, of Carlsbad.
She married James Houston Hardaway in the First Baptist Church in
Ranger, TX, on December 11, 1920. She was preceded in death by her
husband on January 5, 1982, and by three of their sons, James Leroy
Hardaway, Jack Williams Hardaway, and Billy Darrell Hardaway. To the
first marriage of James Houston Hardaway, he and his first wife, Myrtle
Williams were born two sons, James Leroy Hardaway and Jack Williams
Hardaway, and one daughter, Lois Hardaway Shearman of Lovington. To
the marriage of James Houston and Maymie Brittain, were born Billy
Darrell Hardaway, Bobby Gene Hardaway; twins, Donny J. Hardaway and
Donella Hardaway Rodgers; and twins, Thomas Dale Hardaway and Judith
Hardaway Devenport. James and Maymie resided in Stephens, Hartley,
and Haskell Counties, Texas, in the 1920's prior to moving to
Monahans, TX, in the 1930's; Pecos County, TX, in the early 40's, and
then to the Knowles Community of Lea Co., NM, in 1951 and later into
Lovington until 1993 when Mrs. Hardaway came to live with her daughter
and son-in-law, Judith and James Devenport in Midland, TX. Surviving
children include Lois and John Shearman of Lovington; Lucille Bishop
Hardaway of Monahans, TX; Billie Norwood Hardaway of San Angelo, TX;
Shirley Couch Hardaway and Bob Hardaway of Monahans, TX; Wendy Carmen
Hardaway and Donny Hardaway of Abilene, TX; Donella Hardaway Rodgers
and A.V. Rodgers of Eunice, NM; and Judith Hardaway Devenport and James
Devenport of Midland. There are also 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grand-
children and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Two grandchildren also

Betty Sue (Morton) Harper. He married Juanel Briscoe on
December 15, 1994, in Artesia. He came to Artesia in 1960 from
Midland, TX. He was a high school graduate of New Mexico Military
Institute and a graduate of New Mexico State University. He was
the owner of Kevin Harper Accounting Services. He was a member
of First Baptist Church; VFW; a board member and current president
of Artesia Country Club. He served in the US Navy. He is survived
by his wife, Juanel, of the family home; father B.W. Harper of
Artesia; brother David Harper of Artesia; sister Linda Harper of
Artesia; sons Darrell Adam Harden, wife Joanna, of Artesia, and
Eric Harden of Phoenix, AZ; stepsisters Eireen Carson and Eileen
Richardson, both of Artesia; grandchildren Richard Harden, Kiana

of Hagerman, NM. Harris, 91, died March 1 at a local nursing home.
She was born in Vanzant County, TX, to Elijah Ardis Allen and
Nora Frances (Geddy) Allen on March 14, 1908. She married David
Ernest Harris on March 7, 1925. He preceded her in death as well
as both parents, a sister, four brothers, a son-in-law, two grand-
children and a great-granddaughter. She was a member of the West
Country Club Church of Christ. Survivors include son David Allen
Harris, wife Bonnie, of Hagerman; daughters France Carpenter and
Ernestine Harrison, husband A.J., all of Roswell, NM; seven grand-

HARRISON, DONALD C.
Funeral services are scheduled for Donald C. Harrison, 80, on

Lakeview Christian Home of the Southwest, Inc., North Canal Unit.
Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was
born May 24, 1919, in Lost Creek, W.V., to Anderson Payton and
Mary McAvoy Harrison. He was raised and educated in West Virginia.
He joined the Navy on March 31, 1942, and served in the SeaBees.
He met Zelda Francis Jarrell in Webster Springs, W.V., and they
were married March 13, 1945. In 1953, they moved to Carlsbad.
He was a retired Baptist minister and was ordained October 18, 1964,
in Carlsbad. He ministered in Carlsbad at La Huerta Baptist Church,
Happy Valley Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church and Standpipe
Road Baptist Church. He also ministered in Dell City Baptist Church,
Dell City, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife on
October 27, 1999; his parents; two brothers, Eldridge Harrison
and Jake Harrison; and a sister, Rebecca Snyder, all of West Virginia.
Survivors include a son, Gary Michael "Mike" Harrison and wife,
Cathy, of San Antonio, Texas; stepson, Johnathan David "J.D."
Hudson of Torrance, Calif.; stepdaughter, Darlene A. Moutray and
husband, James A. of Carlsbad; brothers, Patrick Harrison of Carlsbad
and Lloyd Harrison of Webster Springs, W.V.; sister, Eleanor Daniels
of Ruckersville, Va.; six grandchildren, Terry L. Moutray of The

1936 in Roswell, NM. They moved to Carlsbad in 1942, never moving
from the area. She was a lifetime member of First Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 22, 1993. Survivors
include a daughter, Lucille Wright, of Carlsbad; a brother, D.C. Chester
of Carlsbad; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 10

Hefley, 83, died on April 2 at Pampa. The body was cremated. She
was born December 22, 1916, at Plainview, TX, to W.W. Kirk and
Maude Crum Kirk. She married J.C. Hefley on May 26, 1940, in
Carlsbad, NM. They made their home in Artesia where they raised
two daughters. Her husband preceded her in death on April 25, 1968.
Survivors include daughters Betty Renner of Pampa and Katie Gunter
of Abilene, TX; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and
two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she
was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister.

June 22, 1919, in Black Oak, AR, to George F. and Nora Lee Amos Scull.
She grew up in Mississippi County. She married Eugene Jolly in
Kaiser, AR, in May 1939. She moved to Carlsbad in 1968, marrying
Apache Hemler in January. She was preceded in death by both husbands,
three brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include daughter, Wanda
Richardson, of Germantown, TN; brother, Richard Jolly of Jacksonville, FL;
sisters, Leona Griffin, Nora Faye Pitts, and Norma Jo Day of Marked Tree,
Louella Godwin of Dyess, AR, and Imogene Rule of Carlsbad; three

on November 17, 1949, in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick, Canada.
The couple moved to Artesia from Laconia, NH, in 1984. He preceded
her in death March 11, 1985. She was preceded in death also by
her parents, daughter, Judith Ann Henry on August 9, 1974, and two
sisters and two brothers. Survivors include son, Jonathan Henry
of Artesia; and brothers Gerald Tompkins, of New Brunswick, Canada,
and Mansell Tompkins of Juniper, New Brunswick.

The made their home in Old Mexico for 20 years. She and her family
moved to Carlsbad in 1950 and made this their home. She was a
member of Grace Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by
her husband in 1975. Survivors include a son, Frank E. Herbert of
Corpus Christi, TX; daughter, Beryl H. Lyon of Carlsbad; five
grandchildren; and several great and stepgreat-grandchildren.

January 29, 1939, in Carlsbad, NM to Bonificio and Marcelena
Navarette Sanchez. She was a member of the Jefferson Church of
Christ in Hobbs, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents
and brothers Juan and Daniel Sanchez. She is survived by five
children; 16 grandchildren; sisters Lydia Ortega and Albesa Sanchez,
both of Artesia; brothers Santos Sanchez of Artesia, Antonio Sanchez
of Hagerman, NM, and Manuel, Frank, Raymond, Jose and Bonificio
(Bonnie) Sanchez, all of Roswell, NM, and Samuel Sanchez of

of arrangements. He was born John P. "Jack" Hesler on
January 14, 1919, in Glencoe, Ill., to George W. and Rose Anna
Petticlair Hesler. He graduated from Texas College of Mines and
Metallurgy (UTEP) in 1941 as a mining engineer. He served as a
captain in the USAAF in Indonesia and China. He was preceded in
death by eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife,
Barbara Morrison Hesler of Pensacola; sons, Ronald Hesler of
Jakarta, Indonesia, and Stephen Hesler of Pensacola; daughter,
Pamela Jo Hesler of Decatur, Ga.; five grandchildren; and several

HICKS, SADIE M.
Graveside services for Sadie M. Hicks, 87, will be January 12 at
Carlsbad Cemetery. Hicks, died January 7 at her daughter's home
in El Paso, Texas. West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sadie M. Hicks was born July 24, 1912, in Carlsbad to William
Bennett and Mary Caroline Ohnemus Wheeler. She was raised and
educated in Carlsbad. She married Clyde W. Hicks on December 24, 1928
in Carlsbad. The couple moved to Artesia and lived there until
his death on January 6, 1952. She returned to Carlsbad. She lived
in Carlsbad and El Paso, Texas with her daughter, Norma Webb. She
was a member of First United Methodist Church and Elks BPOE #43.
She is survived by two sons, Clyde B. Hicks of Farmington, NM, and
Ed Hicks of Carlsbad; a daughter, Norma Gale Webb of El Paso, Texas;
a sister, Judy Floyd of Farmington, NM; six grandchildren; and

HIETER, ALICE A.
Memorial services for Alice A. Hieter, 86, will be August 25 at
Carlsbad Mennonite Church. Cremation has taken place. She died
August 20. West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was
born November 27, 1913, in Newport, NE, to Chris and Dorthea Clifford
Anderson, but was raised and educated in O'Neill, NE. She married
Theodore Jefferson Hieter on October 16, 1934, in Hot Springs, SD.
In 1946, they moved to Leadville, CO. They moved to Carlsbad in
1983 and her husband preceded her in death on April 28, 1989. She
was preceded in death by a son, Francis Leroy Hieter, on June 29, 1997,
three brothers and six sisters. Survivors include sons, Ted C. Hieter
and Gary Hieter of Carlsbad; daughter, Lois Thompson of
Colorado Springs, CO; brother, George "Bud" Andersen of
Grand Junction, CO; and 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and

HINDS, JOE
Services for Joe Hinds, 71, of Clovis, NM, will be April 12 at
Central Baptist Church in Clovis. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven
Memorial Gardens. He died April 8 at Plains Regional Medical Center
in Clovis. Steed-Todd Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born December 2, 1928, in Stinnett, TX, to Joe and Cressie
Hinds. He graduated from Clovis High School in 1947. He married
Stella Faye Howard on January 16, 1949, in Clovis. He was a life-
time resident of Clovis. He served in the New Mexico National Guard
for 11 years with the rank of Captain. He was preceded in death by
one brother; a son, David M. Hinds; and one grandson. He is survived
by his wife; son, Robert Hinds of Canyon, TX; daughters, Linda
Douglas of Carlsbad and Judy Morrow of House, NM; brothers, Jack Hinds
of Hermiston, OR, and Jim Hinds of Pensacola, FL; sister, Goldie
Colvin of Clovis; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

HOBBS, GLORIA JEAN
Services for Gloria Jean Hobbs, 53, will be February 26 at First Baptist
Church in Artesia, NM. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery.
She died February 24 at Artesia General Hospital. Terpening & Son
Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. She was born September 16, 1946,
in Artesia to Orville and Rita (Pack) Chambers. She grew up in Artesia.
She left Artesia in 1969 and moved back in 1995. She was a member of
First Baptist Church, volunteer for the American Cancer Society, 4-H
Volunteer, Ladies Circle, Midland High School volunteer, member of
Cowbells and Wool Auxiliary. Survivors include her parents of Artesia;
a son, Justin Hobbs of Artesia; brother, Bob Chambers and wife, Michelle,
of Artesia; and sister, Leta Scott and husband, Randy, of Artesia.

HOGE, PETE
Pete Hoge, 79, died April 1 at Lakeview Christian Home of the
Southwest, North Canal Unit, in Carlsbad. Direct cremation has
taken place under the direction of Sunset Gardens Direct Cremation
Service. Interment of cremains took place at the Garden of Roses
at Sunset Gardens Cemetery. No services are planned at this time.
He was born May 19, 1920, in New York, to Thomas Courtenay Hoge
and Emily St. Pierre Walker. He had been a minister with the
Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary B. Hoge
in 1995. Survivors include daughters, Karen Hoge Burkhead of
Ashland, OR, and Mary Sandra Hoge Gibbs of Nuevo, CA.

HOLDERNESS, ELSIE JEANNE WEBER
Elsie Jeanne Weber Holderness died on March 4, after a short illness.
She was born October 3, 1914, in Passaic, NJ, the only child of
Elsy Mueller and Jean Jacques Weber. She was educated at the
Beau-Soleil Academy in Lausanne, Switzerland. She married Stephen
Walsh Holderness, United States Military Academy 1936, in 1936.
For 30 years, she traveled the world as an Officer's Wife, including
Naples, Italy; Athens, Greece; and Camp Zama, Japan. After
retirement the couple built a home at Hilton Head Island, SC. Stephen
passed away in May 1992, and Elsie lived in SC until April 1998, when
she moved to Carlsbad to be near family. She is survived by two sons,
Stephen W. Holderness, Jr. (USMA 1962) and his wife, Liz, of Cherry
Hill, NJ, and Jerome Holderness (USMA 1968) and his wife, Susan, of
Carlsbad; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Cremation
has taken place with Funeral services and burial to take place at
West Point later in the spring. A short memorial service will be
at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home Chapel on March 9. (Photo shown

HOLEMAN, FLOSSIE A.
Graveside services are April 13 at Woodbine Cemetery, for
Flossie A. Holeman, 88, of Artesia. She died April 9 at Artesia
General Hospital. She was born November 7, 1911, the daughter of
John Wesley Hayes and Nannie B. (Sellars) Hayes in Muskogee, OK. She
married Jessie Ernest Holeman in Roswell, NM, on May 29, 1931. She
moved to Artesia from Muskogee in November 1928. Her husband preceded
her in death October 10, 1947. Survivors include son Ernest Holeman
of Woburn, Mass.; sister Mae Chapman of Artesia; and a granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Fae Holeman on
October 24, 1968.

of arrangements. She was born July 25, 1960, to Jerome Brice "Jerry"
and Sandra Helen Blanchard Holland in Rantoul, IL. Her family was
a military family and moved to various duty stations. She moved
to Carlsbad as a teen-ager, graduating from Carlsbad High School
in 1979. Survivors include her mother, Sandra H. Peterson of Carlsbad;
father, Jerry B., and step-mother, Jann Holland of Las Cruces, NM;

HOLLY, MILDRED L.
Services are scheduled for February 7 at First Baptist Church in
Artesia for Mildred L. Holly. Holly, 71, died February 4 in
Artesia. Burial will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Park with Eastern
Star Graveside Rites. She was born June 7, 1928, in Claude, Texas,
the daughter of Robert Dalton Finley and Clara Elizabeth (Braddock)
Finley. She married Leroy Holly on October 18, 1947, in
Lubbock, Texas. She came to Artesia from Lubbock in 1947.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern
Star. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother
Robert D. Holly Jr. Survivors include her husband, Leroy Holly of
the family home; sons Robert Benjamin Holly, wife Debbie, of
Alvord, Texas, and Richard Lee Holly, wife Gloria, of Von Ormy, TX;
daughter Margie Elizabeth Aaron, husband Randy, of San Antonio, TX;

County, TX, to Tivis Orvalee and Lizzie Jo Volentine Hood. She moved
to Carlsbad from Pecan Gap, TX, in 1923 at the age of six. She was
preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Moore, and three brothers,
Leslie "Dee" Hood, Ray Hood and John Hood. Survivors include nephews,
John Orvalee Hood of Carlsbad, Jack Nolan Hood of Phippsburg, Maine,

HOPP, LEOTA M.
Memorial services are today at Westminster Presbyterian Church for
former Artesia resident Leota M. Hopp, 92, of Lubbock, TX. She died
April 10 in Lubbock. She was born on December 2, 1907, near
Salem, Iowa. She married Vergil O. Hopp in Kirksville, MO, on
May 29, 1932. He preceded her in death on October 1, 1998. She had
been a resident of Lubbock since moving from Artesia in 1949.
Survivors include daughter Irma Davis of Lubbock; son Wesley Hopp of
Arlington, TX; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

HORNE, LEONARD JR.
At a later date, there will be a private family service for
interment of Leonard Horne Jr., 76, who died at his home on
January 27. Cremation has taken place. Denton-Funchess Funeral
Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born December 27, 1923,
in Carlsbad to Leonard Anderson and Myrtle Edna Taylor Horne Sr.
He graduated from Carlsbad High School and attended the University
of Texas. He served in the Army during WWII. He was preceded in
death by a niece, Donna Sue Hyatt, in July 1987. Survivors include
a sister, Sybil Black of Carlsbad; half-brother, Walter Lunsford of
Carlsbad; and two nieces.

Memorial services for Herbert W. Howard, 67, were held September 11 at

was born December 29, 1932, in Big Spring, TX. He married Marva Nelle
Rich in 1946, in Carlsbad. She preceded him in death in 1999. He was
a member of Bryan Street Baptist Church of Lamesa, TX. He was also a
member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge and IBEW. Survivors
include duaghters, Lynda Molyneaux of Albany, TX, and Brenda Blair of
Carlsbad; sons, Ward W. Howard and Martin D. Howard of Abilene, TX;
sister, Dee Southward of Abilene; and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-
grandchildren.

HOWLAND, VINCE
There will be no local services for Vince Howland, 90, who died
March 22, at Carlsbad Medical Center. Cremation has taken place.
Interment of cremated remains will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born
April 19, 1909, in Albuquerque, NM, to George and Minerva Krummick
Howland. In December 1930, he married Oleta Demby Brown in Albquerque.
He enlisted in the Army in April 1942, serving in the 147th Ord MVA
Company. After training in North Carolina and Wisconsin, he was sent
to North Africa and also served in France and Germany. After his
discharge in November 1945, he lived and worked in Albuquerque until
1966 when he moved to Carlsbad. He was preceded in death by his parents,
two brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife of Carlsbad;
and a newphew Charlie Brown and wife, Beth, of Clyde, TX.

HUNTER, REESE KYLE
Services are scheduled for February 4, at the Artesia High
School Auditorium for Reese Kyle Hunter of Artesia. Hunter,16,
died February 1 in Artesia. The service will be closed casket,
with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. He was born
February 4, 1983, in Artesia, the son of Albert Wesley (Bo) Hunter
and Kristy Lynne (Stewart) Hunter. He was a junior at Artesia
High School. He was a lifelong resident of Artesia. He was a
member of the church families of First United Methodist Church
and First Baptist Church; Fellowship of Christian Athletes,
Artesia High School Football Team; Artesia High School Golf Team;
and National Honor Society. Survivors include mother Kristy
Hunter and fiance Jay Powell of Artesia; father Bo Hunter of
Artesia; brothers, Bryan Hunter of Artesia and Justin Powell of
Dexter; sister Jamie Powell of Artesia; grandparents Maurice and
Joyce Stewart and LaVerne Clarkston, all of Artesia; and numerous
