Andrews, Texas. Tarin, 70, died January 21 in Andrews.
Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery. She was born September 24, 1929,
in Mulato, Mexico, the daughter of Matias Montoya and Paula
(Armendariz) Montoya. She married Jose P. Tarin on April 28, 1952,
in Ojinaga, Mexico. She came to Artesia in 1958 from
Van Horn, Texas, then moved to Andrews in 1989. Her husband
preceded her in death on May 16, 1989. Survivors include son
Jose Tarin of Roswell, NM; brothers Alvaro Montoya and Rodolfo
Montoya both of Andrews, Florentino Montoya of Presidio, Texas,
Anastacio Montoya of Mulato, Mexico, Abelardo Montoya of
Fort Davis, Texas, and Ruben Montoya of Henderson, Colo.; sister
Josefina Estrada of Presidio; and two grandchildren.

Services will be today at Terpening & Son Chapel for Joyce
Terrill, 63, of the Artesia Good Samaritan Center. She died on
February 23 at the Center. Interment will be at Muleshoe Memorial Park
in Muleshoe, TX. She died February 23 at the Artesia Good Samaritan
Center. Terpening & Son Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. She
was born January 1, 1937, to William and B. Etta (Reynolds) Landcaster.
She married Ray Terrill in 1955 in Muleshoe, TX. He preceded her in
death on January 31, 1995. The moved to Artesia from Progress, TX,
in 1995. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include
a daughter, Betty Jean Terrill of Levelland, TX; and a brother, Don
Landcaster and wife, Alma, of Artesia; a nephew; and three great-nephews

TESILLO, PETRA SOSA
Services are scheduled for February 4, at Our Lady of Grace
Catholic Church in Artesia, for Petra Sosa Tesillo of
911 W. Grand. Tesillo, 73, died January 31 at Covenant
Lakeside in Lubbock, Texas. Burial willbe at Woodbine Cemetery.
She was born August 6, 1926, the daughter of Isabel Tesillo and
Tomasa (Sosa) Tesillo. She was never married. She came to
Artesia in the late 1930's from Carlsbad, NM. She was a member
of Our Lady of Grace. Survivors include six sons, Nate Tesillo
of Artesia, Tommy Sanchez of Artesia, Tommy Tesillo of Hobbs, NM,
Charlie Tesillo of Artesia, Jerry Tesillo of Lovington, NM, and
Tony Tesillo of Los Lunas; brother Emilio Tesillo of Artesia;
sister Geneva Bueno of Artesia; 23 grandchildren; and 34 great-
grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons Eric Tesillo,
Charlie Tesillo, Daniel Tesillo, Ernie Tesillo, Tommy Lee Tesillo,
LeRoy Tesillo and Jose Luis Tesillo. She was preceded in death
by her parents; brothers Pete Tesillo Sr., Isabel Tesillo and

THOMAS, LARCENIA
Services for Larcenia Thomas, 62, will be August 25 at Immanuel
Lutheran Church. Cremation will be held under direction of Terpening
and Son Mortuary. She died August 20 at her home after a lengthy
battle with cancer. She was born October 18, 1937, in Cartersville, GA,
to Horace Giddens and Lucy (Carreker) Giddens. She married Charles B.
Thomas on June 16, 1960, in Denver, CO. He preceded her in death in
April 1997. She came to Artesia with her husband in 1963. She was
a member of the US Army Women's Army Corps and was later a NM Department
of Labor employment interviewer for 25 years. She was a member of
Immanuel Lutheran Church. Survivors include sons, Charlges B. Thomas
of Artesia and David M. Thomas of Twentynine Palms, CA; daughter
Michelle Mullins of Artesia; brothers Andrew Giddnes, Paul Giddens
and Ronald Johnson, all of Atlanta, GA; sisters Juel Moore of
San Diego, CA and Luchrista Crawford of Flint, MI; and five grand-

Graveside services for Willadeen Thompson, 81, of Roswell, NM will be

at Mission Arch Care Center in Roswell. Terpening and Son Mortuary
is in charge of arrangements. She was born September 9, 1918, in
Chautauqua, Kan., to Duffy Oliver and LaVern Clayton Smith. She
married Ralph Thompson May 3, 1941, in Las Vegas, NM. He preceded
her in death March 26, 1972. She moved to Artesia from Las Vegas in
1941. She lived in Artesia for 44 years before moving to Roswell in
1993. She was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Kim Thompson on
January 17, 1989. Survivors include a son, Jon Kent Thompson, of
Phoenix, Ariz.

Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born February 7, 1920, to
John Riley and Ruby Mae Jackson Tidwell in El Paso Gap. He grew up
in Eddy County in the Dog Canyon area. During WWII he served in the
Army. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Survivors include sisters, Sue Ervin of Carlsbad and Faye Lewis of
Sallisaw, OK.

Graveside services were this afternoon at Abilene Municipal Cemetery
in Abilene, TX, for former Artesia resident Nadine Tippett Tittle of
Abilene. Tittle, 87, died February 15 at her home. She was born
September 11, 1912, in Del Rio, TX. She married Orion L. Tittle on
December 20, 1931. He preceded her in death in 1991. She was a
member of First United Methodist Church in Merkel, TX. She is
survived by son Billy Rufus Tittle, wife Phyllis, of Abilene;
daughters, Peggy Lou Nelson, husband John, of Fort Stockton, TX,
and Jayne Lee Cockrell, husband Tom, of Hunt, TX; seven grandchildren;
and nine great-grandchildren.

TRACY, LOLITA
Services for Lolita Tracy, 78, will be February 20 at Oasis Christian
Fellowship. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery. She died
February 16 at Carlsbad Medical Center. She was born August 9, 1921,
to Joaquin Sylvester and Mittie Agnes Green McBeath in Orange, TX.
She grew up in east Texas and graduated from high school in Brownwood.
During the war, she worked for the Eighth Service Command in Dallas, TX.
In 1946 she moved to Carlsbad where her mother owned the Eddy County
News. She married Samuel D. Tracy on September 9, 1948, in Carlsbad.
She was preceded in death by her husband on February 24, 1994.
Survivors include a son, George Tracy, of Albuquerque, NM; daughters,
Mittie B. Hayes, Marian Gordon and Susie Bindel of Carlsbad and
Cindy F. Lee of Fredricksburg, VA; brothers, Andrew McBeath of
San Antonio, TX and Sylvester McBeath of Lubbock, TX; 13 grandchildren;

Delia Gonzalez; brothers, Larry Palomino of Roswell, NM, Lupe Trevino II,
Frank Trevino, Raymond Trevino and Lorenzo Trevino of Loving and Joe

Harrison. She married Larry Troublefield on December 2, 1962, in
Las Vegas, NV. She was raised in Carlsbad, NM and came to Artesia
in 1960. She was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship, and women of the
Moose. Survivors include husband Larry; parents Sam and LaVerne
Harrison of Carlsbad; son, Lary Troublefield Jr. of Carlsbad; daughter
Edna Adkins of Portales, NM; grandchildren Nikki Adkins and Justin Adkins
of Portales, Trey Troublefield and Katelyn Troublefield of Carlsbad;
sister-in-law Peggy Wilson and husband N.F. of Houston, TX; brothers-in-
law Bill Troublefield and wife Oma of Hagerman, Ron Troublefield of

to Manuel and Margarita Gonzales Trujillo. He married Julia
Villalpando on March 11, 1935, in Carlsbad. He moved to Canadian from
Roswell, NM in 1997. He was preceded in death by two sons, Eloisin
Trujillo in 1982 and David Trujillo in 1999. Survivors include his
wife, sons, Elias Trujillo of Colorado Springs, CO, the Rev. Enrique
Trujillo, Albert Trujillo and Rodolpho Trujillo of Roswell, and Daniel
Trujillo of El Paso, TX; daughters, Elena Ornelas and Cecilia Tavarez

teen-ager where he graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1960. He
married Shirley Harris in Carlsbad, on June 29, 1968. He was a member
of BPOE No. 1558 Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife; sons, Larry
Thomas and Brenton Upton of Carlsbad; daughter, Ranea Crosby of
Carlsbad; father, Obie Dean Upton Sr. of Carlsbad; brothers, Bill
Upton of Madill, OK, Henry Upton of CA and Fred Upton, Gene Upton and

He was born January 25, 1919 in Dayton, NM, to Santiage Urban and
Consuelo (Yturralde) Urban. He married Guadalupita Gonzales on
July 21, 1951 in Artesia. She preceded him in death on December 11, 1999.
He was a lifelong area resident. He was a veteran of the Army having
served in WWII. Survivors include daughter-in-law Louise Gutierrez
of Albuquerque, NM; brothers Leo Torres and Sam Torres; sisters
Flavia Cota of Rio Rancho, NM, Josefina Molinar of Albuquerque, Elsie
Gomez of Hagerman, NM, Cuca Torres of Artesia, Connie Blankenship of
Farmington, NM, Angie Dorado, Sophie Navarrette and Lila Torres;
five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by his parents, a step-son, a step-daughter, and a brother.

in Cauwilla, Mexico, the daughter of Vicente Jacobos and Anastacia
Garcia Jacobos. She married Emilerio Reyes Valdez in Carlsbad, NM,
on September 21, 1937. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1979.
She came to Artesia from Mexico in 1915. Survivors include sons,
Simon G. Valdez, Isabel Valdez, and Ishmael Valdez, all of
Lovington, NM, Manuel Valdez of Roswell, NM, and Angel Valdez of
Hobbs, NM; daughters, Teresa Navarrette, Erminia Tesillo and
Esperanza Valdez all of Artesia; 39 grandchildren; 175 great-grand-
children; and 62 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her husband, her parents, daughters Ansencion Velasquez and Nancy
V. Ybarra, son Adam Valdez, two brothers, one sister and three grand-
sons.

Springdale, Ark., for John Frank VanCuren of Springdale. VanCuren, 55,
died February 12 at the Northwest Medical Center of Springdale.
Interment was to follow at Bluff Cemetery. He was born June 10, 1944,
at Flushing, Ohio, to James Ferman and Marjorie Triplett VanCuren.
He married Judy Kathryn Phipps on March 14, 1963. Survivors include
his wife of the home; sons James VanCuren, wife Janie, and John
VanCuren, wife Debbie, all of Springdale; adopted son Shane Griffin
of Springdale; daughters Kellie Alyacoub, husband Ahmad, and Jamie
Trammell, husband Tony, all of Springdale; brothers Clifford
VanCuren and Rusty VanCuren, both of Artesia; sisters Bonnie VanCuren

in Gillham, AR. She was born on October 18, 1925, in Texarkana, TX,
to the late Clyde and Ethel Van Zandt Freeman. She is survived by
her husband, Roy R. Vann; sons Randy Vann of Booneville, AR, Riley
Vann of Artesia, Dudley Vann of Flint, TX, and Rodney Vann of
Bullard, TX; sister Becky Whisenhunt of Gillham; nine grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

VERVALIN, NEIL C.
Services for Neil C. Vervalin, 89, will be September 13 in the chapel
of Lakeview Christian Home of the Southwest - Northgate Unit. Interment
will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery with military honors performed by the
Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard. He died September 10 at Lakeview
Christian Home. West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was
born in Royse City, TX, on March 22, 1911, to Rufus and Donna Ingle
Vervalin. He was raised and educated in Texas, moving to Loving, NM
during the depression as a young man. He made him home with his uncle,
Homer Ingle. He was inducted into the Army on February 8, 1941, and
was shipped to Algeria, where he was involved in the Sicily, Naples-Foggia
and Rom-Arno battles. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern
Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal,
Distinguished Unit Badge and Meritorious Unit Insignia. He was honorably
discharged on September 20, 1945, and returned to Carlsbad. He married
Katheryn Rosser in 1951, in Carlsbad. He was active with the Elks Club,
VFW and First Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife
on November 9, 1985; a brother, James Allen Vervalin; and a sister,
Bonnie V. Springer.
