Betty McCullough was born Oct. 2, 1937, to J.C. and Lillie Kenyon West in Carlsbad, where she was raised and attended school. After high school, she attended college.
She met Will McCullough and they married on March 23, 1956, in Carlsbad.
She enjoyed her duties as a wife and mother and was very happy being able to invest her time and effort in raising her children and watching her grandchildren grow. She managed to fit into her schedule time to ride horses, break mules and play the piano.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Will McCullough; six children, Linda Carter of Carlsbad, Lee McCullough Jr. and wife Joyce of Bartlesville, Okla., Kathy Wilson and husband Randy of Carlsbad, Karen Sue Christesson and husband Mark of Carlsbad, Lisa Wray of Carlsbad, and Alicia Renee Ramirez and husband Joe of Irving, Texas; a brother, Dick West and wife Glenda of Carlsbad; and 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Betty’s grandsons Joshua Wray, Russell Wilson, Andrew McCullough, Bobby Christesson, Jamie Carter and Justin Campbell

Robert James Meyn was born Sept. 6, 1953, in Manhatten, N.Y., to Robert Meyn and Catherine J. McDonnell Meyn. Bob was a resident of Lovington for more than 27 years, where he worked in the oil field. He also lived in Lubbock and was most recently a resident of Carlsbad for the past three years.
He was preceded in death by mother, Catherine Meyn, and brother, Richard P. Meyn.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Joan Meyn; sons, Johnny Meyn, of Carlsbad, Robert W. Dean Mobley was born Oct. 1, 1955, to Jay and Edith Gibson Mobley in Carlsbad. He was active in 4-H as a young man, and was very involved with the rodeo for a number of years. Dean won State Championship two years in a row for mule racing and did well in other areas as well. He loved hunting and fishing.
Dean was preceded in death by sons Jason Shane Mobley and Joshua Ryan Kinkade.
He is survived by his spouse, Karen Kinkade Mobley of the family home; sons, Rory Dean Mobley and wife Randa of Carlsbad, Zachery Blaze Mobley of Carlsbad and Steven Boyd Kinkade and wife Christi of Clovis; daughters, Candy Scott and husband KC of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Victoria Carleen Merimon of Clovis; his parents, Jay and Edith Gibson Mobley of Carlsbad; a brother, Larry Mobley and wife Jean of Branson, Mo.; sisters, Glenda Posey and husband Ray of Flatrock, Ala., and Brenda Johnson and husband Chris of Candleville, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

MORROW, DENTON L.
FORT WORTH — Denton L. Morrow, 80, a retired plumbing contractor, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2005.
A funeral is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel with entombment at
Greenwood Mausoleum. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. today at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Mr. Morrow was born Nov. 10, 1924, in Hammon, Okla. He graduated from high school in Carlsbad in 1942 and entered the Army Air Corps where he served combat duty as a B-24 pilot with the 8th Air Force in Europe.
Afterwards, he attended college at Baylor and the University of Oklahoma. Following college, he worked for various mining companies in the western United States and Canada.
He was executive director of the New Mexico Mining Association for three years. In 1969, he moved to Houston, where he met and married Jane, the love of his life. While in Houston, he was corporate systems manager for Duval Corp., the mining subsidiary of Penzoil Corp. Subsequently, he moved to Fort Worth, where he and his wife owned and operated Fisher-Boone Plumbing Co. from 1972 until his retirement in 1992. During this time he was a major stockholder of Houston-Bay Supply Co. and Filter Products. Additionally, he owned and operated Filter Specialists of Fort Worth.
He was a past president of the Fort Worth Charter of the National Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors and was a member of the Fort Worth Plumbing Board for six years.
Mr. Morrow was a member of the Petroleum Club, Ridglea Country Club, Overton United Methodist Church and Eddy No. 21 Masonic Lodge of Carlsbad.
The family offers their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Susan Blue who for 20 years helped Mr. Morrow in his courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Our gratitude also goes out to Dr. Quang Le for his compassionate care of our loved one.
Survivors include his wife, Jane C. Morrow of Fort Worth; daughters, Carol Maguire and Gay Guy of Albuquerque; son, John R. Morrow of New Mexico; stepdaughters, Gypsy Mallon of Granbury and Toni Price of Fort Worth; brothers, Dr. H.G. After moving to Eastland in 1969 with her husband and three small children, she decided to go to barber school. She owned and operated Modern Barber Shop for 26 years in Eastland. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed bowling, her grandchildren and working as a volunteer at the Majestic Theatre.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

He was married to Ruth Helen Pettigrew in Globe, Arizona. He came to Artesia in 1992 from Mesa, Arizona. He was a Journeyman Plasterer and member of Mormon Church in Tempe, Arizona, and member of the O.P.M.C.I.A. Union.
He was preceded in death by parents, a brother and 4 sisters.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Helen Norvell of the family home; sons Randy Norvell and Norman Norvell both of Apache Junction, Arizona; step-son Steve Dick of Apache Junction; step-daughters Paula Schofield of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Toni Byers of Artesia; sister Helen Lanier of Dexter, N.M.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Michael Edwin Oakes was born July 5, 1978, in Pecos, Texas, to Gilbert Edwin and Annie E. Strain Oakes.
He joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school in Rosser, Texas. He worked in the engine room on a mine sweeper while in the Navy.
Michael loved working on cars and four-wheel trucks and was a diesel mechanic. He built and ran race cars and won several racing trophies while he lived in Texas.
Michael moved to Carlsbad in 1999 and started working in the oil field as a floor hand. He loved the oil field, and he worked his way up to a driller. He had been a driller for Patterson-UTI for the last 2½ years.
He was preceded in death by his cousin, Joseph Strain; uncle, Robert Strain; maternal grandmother and grandfather; and his paternal grandfather.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Annie Lowrey and James, of Carlsbad; his father, Gilbert E. Oakes and wife Linda, of Rosser, Texas; uncles, Edward Strain and wife Rosemary, of Pecos, Texas, James Strain, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Don Curtis Strain of Fort Worth; aunts, Linda Strain, of Amarillo, Texas, and Mildred King, of Plano, Texas; and 11 cousins.
Also surviving is his paternal grandmother, Velma Oakes, of Bonham, Texas; aunts, Lois and husband Neville Cummings, of San Jose, Calif., and Evalyn Poole and husband Robert and cousin Russell Poole, of Bokchito, Okla.

Diana S. “Nana” Ornelas was born May 25, 1970, to David D. and Viviana G. Salmon Ornelas in Carlsbad. Nana was very active in the community and was a sponsor for the Loving Junior High School cheerleaders. Nana loved caring for Chelsey and Courtney Spaulding and the time spent with the CARC clients for the past 10 years. Nana enjoyed dancing, singing and spending time with her friends. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and was always the life of the party.
Diana was preceded in death by her grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her parents, David and Viviana Ornelas of Loving; sister, Maria S. Ornelas of Loving; brothers, Ervie S. “Bubba” Ornelas of Loving and David Ornelas Jr. and wife Julie of Albuquerque; her adopted brother, Ernie Ornelas of Loving; special friends, Heiro and Heroi Nemoto of Tokyo, Japan; and two nephews, David Ornelas III of Albuquerque and Joseph Ornelas.

Jose C. Orona Sr. was born Feb. 16, 1922, to Jose and Bartola Carrasco Orona in Toyah, Texas. He was raised and attended school in the Malaga area, where he farmed until he entered the U.S. Army in 1942. Jose was a squad leader in the European and African Theatres where he earned the Silver Star with an oak leaf cluster and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in Italy.
He returned to Carlsbad after the service and married Martina Carrasco in 1947.
Jose worked construction until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes and just driving around town visiting with his friends. He enjoyed two beers at 4 p.m. (no earlier). He loved his family and enjoyed being around his grandchildren. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church and The Military Order of the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years Martina; son, Michael; daughter, Sally; brothers, Augustin and Ignacio; and sister, Elisa Saiz.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Orona of Carlsbad; sons, Joe Orona Jr. and wife Dottie of Carlsbad and Tracy Flores and wife Emily of Carlsbad; daughters, Alice Orona of Carlsbad, Sandra Subia and husband Alfonso of Carlsbad, Yolanda Mireles and husband Nano of Carlsbad, Chuga Flores and husband Ernie of Carlsbad and Candi Coca and husband Reyes of Colorado; brothers, Nieves Orona of Albuquerque and Ray Orona of California; sisters, Emma Samaniego of Carlsbad and Maria Lopez of Hobbs; and 21 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

He was an agricultural laborer and member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

PERKOWSKI, CAMILLA R.
CARLSBAD — Camilla Ruth Neil was born to Celia and Harold Neil on July 2, 1922. She graduated Lowell High School in San Francisco in January 1941, and continued her education to get a cosmetology license. She
met her husband, Earl Perkowski, while living in San Francisco. They were married Aug. 8, 1943.
Earl spent 32 years in the U.S. Navy. Camilla was his wife, friend and confidant. They had three children, Joyce (Lintner), Janet (Fry), and Alan (Perkowski). They retired and settled in Carlsbad in early 1969. Camilla continued to live in Carlsbad after her husband, Earl, passed away in 1988. Due to her declining health, she moved closer to her daughters in Southern California in 2000. In December 2003, she moved into her granddaughter and grandson-in-law’s home, where she lived the last 1½ years of her life.
Camilla died at home shortly after noon on Friday, July 8, at the age of 83. She is survived by her two daughters and son, Joyce and Janet, both living in San Diego County, and, Alan, living in Plano, Texas. Her six grandchildren are Diane, who lives with her husband in Ohio, Brian, living with his wife in New Jersey, George, Debora and Christina, who all live in Southern California with their families, and Lori, who also lives in Plano with her husband. Her great-grandchildren are Matthew, 15, in New Jersey, Jared, 10, Hannah, 8, Simon, 4, Abby, 2, Kenan, 2, Micah, 2½ months, and Emily, 8 hours, all in Southern California, and Max, 2½, and Julianna, 1½, who live in Plano. She was loved by us all, and we are thankful for the many years we were able to spend with her.
Camilla will be cremated and her ashes scattered at sea at 10 a.m. today off the coast of San Diego. There will be a family memorial service at 6 p.m. today at La Jolla Shores. Her name will be placed on her husband’s memorial marker at Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego.

Alberta was born on Nov. 1, 1916, in California and was raised in Nanton, Canada. She accepted her Lord at 16 years of age and was baptized. She married Robert Newberg in 1934. Two children were born to this union. Mr. Newberg passed away in 1955. In 1958, Alberta married Frank Pontello, of Long Beach, Calif., and together they raised his two sons. They lived in Long Beach until two years ago when they relocated to Carlsbad. Frank and Alberta were active members of Scottish Rite and Eastern Star.
Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Newberg, who was killed in Vietman; and one brother and two sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Frank, of Carlsbad; son, Roy Newberg, of Carlsbad; stepsons, Rick Pontello, of Sacramento, Calif., and Tony Pontello, of Connecticut; brother, Anderson Russell, of Reno, Nev.; and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In his spare time, he raised pigs and horses and really enjoyed his vegetable gardens. He was a member of First Christian Church.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Jim, Ed, Tom, Charlie, George and Oscar; sister, Kate Kutrch; and one grandson, Jason Cunningham.
Survivors include his wife, of the family home; son, Danny Pope and his wife Gloria, of Carlsbad; daughter, Jackie Cunningham and husband “Red,” of Gallup; four grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

LUBBOCK, Texas — John Lynn Roy, 58, died July 1, 2005, at his home in Lubbock, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Paducah, Texas, on March 1, 1947, he was raised in Carlsbad. He attended the Carlsbad Public Schools,
Odessa Commercial College and NMSU-Carlsbad.
He married Jolene Smith Roy on June 18, 1967. He was a U.S. Army veteran. While living in Hobbs, he retired after 30 years of service to GTE. He went on to work for ENMR Telephone Co-op in Clovis, followed by Valor Telecom in Brownfield, Texas, where he was most recently serving as Engineering and Construction manager. He was an avid golfer and he also enjoyed baseball.
He was a former member of Central Christian Church in Carlsbad. He was a current member of Raintree Christian Church in Lubbock.
He is survived by his wife, Jolene S. Roy; one daughter, Kristi L. Abbott and husband Marcus W. Abbott of Katy, Texas; two granddaughters, Mackenzi Abbott and Madison Abbott; his mother, Max Russell Goodin Roy; and his brother, Ted M. Roy, both of Carlsbad.
He was predeceased by his father, John Lds Roy, and two sisters, Frances Liles and Kay Roberts.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Raintree Christian Church in Lubbock, conducted by Richard Cook of Wichita Falls, Texas, with burial to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery. White Funeral Home in is charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Raintree Christian Church, 3601 Slide Road, Lubbock, TX 79423.
Pallbearers will be Bradley R. Smith, Davy Smith, Gary D. Roberts, Tim Roberts, Russell Liles and Richard Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy S. Smith, Jeffery D. Smith and Marcus W. Abbott.
The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He loved to dance and ride his bicycle and enjoyed helping friends and neighbors.

She was a long time employee of Golden Services and was a certified emergency medical technician. Edie was also an active member of Loving Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Dimitri Savinov.

Millie left this world behind on Monday, July 4, 2005.
Millie was born Jan. 18, 1927, in Seminole, Okla., to Fred R. and Jewel I. Smythe. She moved to Carlsbad in 1942. She was among the first women to work at Duval Potash mine. She enjoyed that job very much and made many friends. Around 1981, she moved to the Gila National Forest and spent most of the rest of her life there. She loved anything to do with the outdoors, especially arrowhead hunting and Indian artifacts. She had a strong, independent, free spirit and was very gentle, yet fearless.
This world is a lesser place without her, but the lessons she taught will remain with us forever. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but especially by her daughter, Shelly, who lovingly and selflessly cared for her until the moment Millie was called away.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bill Smythe; and one sister, Dorothy Williams.

Joe O. Sorrells was born April 11, 1917, to James O. and Lula Belle Puckett Sorrells in Antlers, Okla.
Joe and Edith celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 25, 2003. During the early years of their marriage, Joe was employed by Portwood Oil Co. He later owned and operated J.O. Sorrells Construction Co. in Carlsbad, having built and remodeled numerous houses and buildings. From 1968 to 1978 they lived in Silver City, where he worked for Sterns-Rogers and Holiman Construction Co.
Joe formerly served as a deacon and an elder at Fox and Lake Church of Christ in Carlsbad, as an elder of the Church of Christ in Silver City and at the Sunset Congregation in Morenci, Ariz.
After retiring in Silver City, Joe and Edith returned to Carlsbad, where they faithfully carried out the grocery run for 12 years with Lakeview Christian Home. For many years, he was a member of the Carlsbad chapter of the Good Sams Club, always enjoying camping with family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild, Jay Sorrells; and one brother, Cleo Sorrells.

He was a stage lighting technician and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Artesia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by grandparents Mack and Lenora Reasner; and grandmother Andy Elizabeth Sudderth.

Tony J. Troise was born July 1, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Dominick and Marie Maltempo Troise. Tony was a member of the Elks Lodge, Post No. 1558, the Moose Lodge and a very active member of First Baptist Church. He rooted for the Brooklyn Dodgers his entire life and was a Little League coach in Loving for many years before moving to Carlsbad. He thoroughly enjoyed dancing and had a passion for music and later in retirement he enjoyed fishing.
Tony served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.
He married Della Brown and they were married 15 years before her death. He later married Grace Marshall on Oct. 26, 1970, and they were married for 24 years. Tony was known to be a man of a few thousand words.
He is survived by stepdaughters, Charlotte Pippin and husband Les of Sand Springs, Okla., Jane Derrick and husband Ken of Memphis, Tenn., and Vicki O’Flynn and husband Duane of Lacomb, La.; nephew, Jim Goff of Carlsbad; nine grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and many close friends and neighbors.

WEAVER, DANIEL S.
CARLSBAD — A graveside service for Daniel S. Weaver, 31, of Mountain View, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Carlsbad Cemetery with the Rev. Canon Thomas Gray of Grace Episcopal Church officiating. There will be no visitation.

Daniel joined our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 21, 2005, at the age of 31, when his life was tragically taken by a senseless automobile accident. He was born on Sept. 19, 1973, in Englewood, Calif., was raised in New Mexico and moved to Carlsbad from Las Cruces in 1995.
Daniel had many interests in life, including fishing, which he loved dearly, as well as tinkering with his trucks, working with computers and electronics and spending time with family and friends from around the world. He was very passionate about his beloved cat, Fat Guy, to whom he devoted much time and attention.
Daniel had finally found the love of his life in Raychel Hand and was planning to marry her at the time of his untimely death. He was a floor hand and motorman for Patterson-UTI on and off for the better part of nine years and also worked for Wal-Mart when the rigs were down. Daniel lived a good life and could be called on at any time of the day or night for assistance. He enjoyed a good joke, was known for his punctuality and was a very compassionate person.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Suzanna Katrian Weaver-Ramirez; his grandfather, G.W. Martin; and his cousin, Christopher Martin Shepard.
Daniel is survived by his son, Jordan Michael Weaver of Truth or Consequences; parents, Ray “Gypsy” and Barbara Weaver of Carlsbad; his beloved fiancée, Raychel Hand and her family; siblings, William Connor and fiancée Becky Duran and her children, Amber Daniels and her husband and children of Farmington, and Ryan Marshall, of Mission Viejo, Calif.; aunts, Patricia Shepard of Hobbs and Teri Ann Pelton of Carlsbad; cousins, William Wayne Shepard of Hobbs and Justin James Woods of Ruidoso; and grandparents, Sally Martin of Carlsbad and Bill and Sue Weaver of Eunice. Daniel considered Wes Hurley the best friend he ever had.
Our grief in losing Daniel is only eased slightly in our knowledge we will see him again in heaven and that Daniel will be watching over us.

WEBB, CHARLES W.
CARLSBAD — A memorial service was held Sunday for Charles Wilson Webb, 62, of Highland Village, Texas. Charles passed away Thursday, July 7, 2005, at Denton Regional Medical Center from heart failure.
Charles was born in Vernon, Texas, on Sept. 10, 1942. He was raised in Carlsbad and was a 1960 graduate of Carlsbad High School, where he played baseball for the Carlsbad Cavemen. Charles was a 1964 graduate of Southern Methodist University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked as an engineer for many years with Texas Instruments and retired from Raytheon in 2002. He loved to travel the world and had recently returned from a tour of Russia, Egypt, Israel and Germany.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, C.W. “Buck” Webb.
He is survived by his mother, Lorene Webb of Carlsbad; sisters, Mary Sutphen of Carlsbad and Koni Hjeltness of Las Cruces; a son, Air Force Major Charles Wilson Webb Jr. and his wife Kammi of Dayton, Ohio; a daughter, Karrie Piper and her husband, Bil of Highland Village, Texas. He is also survived by his four granddaughters, Emily, Haley and Ashley Webb and Hannah Piper.

Closed casket services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 8 at First Baptist Church for Major Laurence V. Willard, Jr., Artesia, New Mexico.
Major Willard, 81, died Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at his home.
Rev. Mark Simons will officiate at the services. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery with Veterans graveside rites. Pallbearers will be grandsons Allen R. Willard, Kevin A. Willard and Ben M. Currier; and Cliff Currier, Matthew Santillanes and Carlos Guerrero. Visitation at Terpening & Son Mortuary will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday.
Major Willard was born September 3, 1923 in Ponca City, Oklahoma; the son of Laurence V. Willard and Mary Frances (Parkins) Willard.
After graduation from Washington Rural High School in Kansas City, Kansas he attended the University of Kansas. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in World War II. He was an Aircraft Commander and Bomber Pilot. He flew in the Berlin Airlift, served in the Military Air Transport Service, AACS and the Strategic Air Command. He flew DC-3 Cargo Planes, B-47 and B-52 Bombers. He served in Japan, Germany, the Alaskan Air Command and retired from the 303d Bombardment Wing, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona in 1963.
After retirement he continued his aviation career as a private pilot and flight instructor. He taught Ground School at the College of Artesia and taught many people from the area to fly.
On Sept. 2, 1945 he was married to Chrystine Anderson in Artesia. He came to Artesia in July, 1963 from Tucson.
He was a past member of Artesia Downtown Lions Club, a member of the American Legion; was leader of Troop 28 Air Explorers of Boy Scouts of America; was a member of the National Rifle Association; and the National Association of Flight Instructors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister Mary Sue Willard.
Survivors include his wife Chrystine Willard of the family home; children Laurence David Willard of Albuquerque, N.M., Cheryl Currier and husband Cliff of Artesia; and Steve Willard and wife Judy of Artesia; a brother William E. Willard and wife Jean of Wichita, Kansas; a sister Janice Potter and husband Marvin of Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren Ben Currier and wife Margaret, Heather Santillanes and husband Matthew, and Christy Bentz and husband John all of Albuquerque, and Allen R. Willard and Kevin A. Willard both of Artesia; and great-grandchildren Kimberly Gordon and Matthew Bentz.
